Subject: Languages (Cay, want to speak Tauren-ish?)
   BEFORE you post:
- I do not ask for us to be able to learn cross-factions language.
- If Taurenish, Nigh-elfish and Dwarvish have "real" names for them, please tell me without using the "OMG YOU !&$%ING SUCK HARD" expression and I will change them.

Now the message/thread itself:

Maybe, no, surely it have been discuss a lot of time but I haven't seen any thread about it in general yet.

I would like players to be able to speak their faction language. Exemples: my dwarf characters to be able to speak dwarvish (or whatever it's called), my night-elf character to speak night-elfish (same). A simple command like /dwarvish could allow dwarf to switch in dwarvish communication and only other dwarves would understand him. Same for night-elf, same for taurens, same for... you get it.

That would be great for role-play as well as for the simple respect of the lore and, at the same time, would be a really cool feature.

I guess you could also authorise the learning of the language once you get exalted with a faction. Meaning that humans exalted with Darnassus could begin the prosses of learning night-elfish.

This could be done by a night-elfish teacher that give us basic skills in night-elfish. At this point, players can higher up their communication skill in night-elfish by simply listening to people speaking it (of course, at the begging, you don't understand much) or by taking aditionnal courses with the teacher.

Of course, no teaching is perfect and that would higher the skill up to something like 250, at which point the player can only increase their skills by listening to night-elfish communications.

Now, would this be feasible? Is this something that the developper thought about and just dropped it? Are people interrested in this idea?

^^

PS: yes, this have been posted in the suggestion forum. But this thread is for discussion, not suggesting =D

The racial languages of Dwarvish, Gnomish, Darnassian, Trollish, Gutterspeak, and Taurahe are already in the game and accessible through the chat bubble icon in the chat interface.

My Tauren can already speak in his own tongue. :)

Unfortunately, races cannot learn each other's language.

Look, the translator did that. :P You can also say "Isha Awak" if you mention the right words... and I have figured out how to say "Zug zug" and "Lok Tar Ogar" in ways that Alliance can see. ;)

It is coded Common, but not letter by letter, and in all honesty the number of words in the translator is not nearly as broad as the English language allows, thus leading to incorrect translations.

This is not to say that you cannot make yourself understood, but the way to do it is very limited and challenging... ;)

Q u o t e:
Why is it that if I do a /silly in game my toon talks in common yet he can't understand the Alliance?

Whoever did that is pretty braindead.

He talks in whatever language your character can understand. Common != English. ;)
