i still can't figure out what the hell that icon is. it looks sort of like a face and the lensflare thing is like an eye or something, but on further inspection, some of the swirls and whatnot make that assumption misleading.

anyone have any insights?

It's a bald, bearded dwarf head with the eye gleaming, I believe.

A dwarf... but why.. this is the new question hehe

^^

Dwarves used to be able to choose Mage as a class back in the ol' Beta days.

Q u o t e:
Useless topics get more attention. That way blue folks can post and say they post in the forums, whereas they don't have to deal with anything game-oriented at the same time.

The correct answer, actually, is that this sort of post is the type I can answer without the need to get information from other parties, whereas getting answers for the truly massive issue posts takes time and clearance. Since this is Saturday, those folks tend to be unavailable.

Thank you for playing. You can have a copy of the home game. :)

Q u o t e:
The Blink Icon is the same Blink icon Maiev has (or any warden) in the Frozen Throne.

Actually, untrue. It's very similar, but the War3 version has a Warden's face, while the one in World of Warcraft is a dwarf. ;)

Q u o t e:
*sobs* Dwarf mages *wails* WHY GOD WHY DO WE HAVE ROGUES AND NOT MAGES? *sobs*

Sad to know an icon for a class carries the face of a race that cannot be the class. Then again every time I see a Dwarven Mage Staff I shed a tear of pain because we had rogues forced upon our race.

Er? How precisely were Rogues "forced" upon the Dwarven race? Mages weren't replaced with Rogues.

Aha, I found one that's been bugging me.
The icon for the Preist's "Silence" spell.

The black bit on top is an evil, impish face... the two black corner pieces on the bottom are hands reaching out to grasp... and the rest is, er... magic. :P

Q u o t e:
They weren't, but they do not seem to fit the dwarven style of running around drunk and trigger happy. I mean can't you see a dwarf in stealth talking to a wall saying "Sshe told me ssshe wassh sheventeeeen ociffer"? Pretty sure that isn't very steathly. It is also pretty rare to actually find someone playing a dwarf rogue as opposed to NEs who have racials that complement the class very well, gnomes who are so hard to see being tiny and humans are just heavily played. A drunken dwarf cackling as they throw a giant AE spell makes more sense. I just wish we could trade the rogues for our mages back. Even our priests are suicidal maniacs. Rogues.... *cries*

I'm afraid you're not going to find much sympathy with me as a player... you see, one of my longest-running and most memorable characters in D&D is a Dwarf Rogue.

A rogue is a difficult thing to define, but I think it means different things to different cultures. For the Night Elves, for example, they're skilled stalkers of the woods, able to disappear due to their keen awareness of their surroundings. To the Humans, the more conventional thing you're thinking of -- a bit of a thug, or a suave, smooth-talking thief. Gnomes are quick and ruthless pickpockets, using their size to every advantage, able to hide where none other can.

And where do Dwarves fit into all this?

Dwarves are somewhat, mm, blunter than your average culture with rogues, but here's how I've always painted them personally. A Dwarf Rogue is not necessarily as aware of his surroundings as he is of his own body. Being low to the ground, he can more easily detect any possible noises one might make by creeping around... and being strong, as Dwarves tend to be, causes one to be very aware of how you're using that strength. Add this into the Dwarves' keen knowledge of stone and metalworking, and it's certain that they could find a way to hide in most areas.

The attitude, now, I see Dwarf Rogues as affable, rakish types who drink heartily with you, tell a tall tale or two, and pick your pocket while you're deep in your cups. They don't mean anything bad by it; money has to come from somewhere, though, and if you were fool enough to string it on your belt, that's your dilemma. Money comes and goes, after all, and even the best of friends is certain to come by more and probably won't mind a little missing. Dwarf rogues are bluffers, gamblers, and are quite possibly the loudest of all -- it's quite easy to use the art of misdirection if you can focus attention on one aspect of your behavior.

The alternative is that Dwarf Rogues are the most "thuggish" of all, lurking in corners and cracking you over the head for the cash; the direct route is normally the best one.

Hope I've given you a little something to think about as to why Dwarves just might fit the bill, after all. ;)

Q u o t e:
Ok i'm gonna ask, i have to. What about the horde rogues? How do their races fit into the class. And why is Tauren the only one that can't be rogue Cay?

Tauren... I'm going to have to say size + hooves. :P

The Orcs are very direct in their methods, so of all races, I think of them as the closest to "thugs" as it were. Knock 'em in the head, take the loot and run.

The Trolls are more sly. Their tribes have a great many Hunters in them, but I think of the Rogue for them as sort of an "up-close" Hunter -- stalking the prey patiently, lining up the perfect blow... then *crack*.

Undead, well, the Forsaken tend to be slightly more sinister in their motives. It's only natural that they have scouts and spies amongst the living races to discern how best to further their goals.

This is all Caydiem rationalization and none of it should necessarily be considered canon. I'm just sayin'. ;)

Q u o t e:
getting back to the subject, the image for blink looks like a side view of a silouette of a man wearing a rounded helmet-like-thing that i recognize from some pointless japanese movie. it seems to only go down to just past the nose and the shining is his eye opening after "blinking"

BTY and nomatter how hard i try i cannot make out a dwarf

I think you're looking at the Warcraft 3 version. ;)
