Subject: Do mages get boring?
I just reached 26 then noticed the only skills I don't have are portals and mana gems. This is discouraging me from leveling my mage more. So, do mages stay fun? Even without new skills?

Only you can answer whether or not you'll become bored with something in a video game, as the state of boredom is a fairly subjective matter. You should keep in mind that in addition to multiple spell upgrades, you'll gain Mana Agate at level 28, Ice Armor at level 30, Mage Armor at 34, and Portal spell at 40 & 50. What's more important is the fact that you've only acquired 17 talent points out of a total of 51, which can be spent to customize your character in a number of ways, including options to purchase unique talent-only abilities.

I have two Mages, one of which has reached end-game, and another approaching level 30. It's definitely my favorite class in the game, however, others would certainly disagree considering it's a matter of personal taste and preference.

Q u o t e:
If you have two mages how can you possibly ignore the plaethora of problems our class has, and the suggested improvements on the forums?

Every class is buffed to hell (warlocks this patch, hunters druids paladins next patch) and we're getting the nerf stick every patch. When will our turn come?

The Mage is a good solid class useful in a variety of situations. I don't disagree with you in stating that there are problems, however, these problems are minor and are not a priority when compared to some of the problems certain other classes face. When we're ready to address some of the Mage concerns, such as when their talent options, I or one of the other Community Managers will be much more active in your class forum. Until then, enjoy the game and continue to post your concerns.

Q u o t e:
eyonix, may I make suggestion? buff Ice armor a bit, make it give more armor at 60 and/or have a talent for increasing its armor, because as it stands, it does nothing against rogues/warriors even WITHOUT their uber gear. Also have you gotten any word on caster itemization? or is it still in the dark like I assume?

Caster itemization continues to see improvements with each and every patch. Examples of such can be seen by viewing the caster friendly items which were introduced along with Blackwing Lair. Next patch, Zul' Gurub will bring forth a number of items which favor casters directly.

Q u o t e:
FROSTBOLT BUG???

Its like a 30% hit to our potential DPS during raiding!

Thats not a serious bug?

My guild just fought ragnaros tonight(THE GOD OF FIRE)

Guess how much +vulnerability I got throughout the fight? With FROSTbolt

A BIG FAT GOOSE EGG!!!!!

We're not discussing bugs. We're discussing the design of the class, balance, and player related concerns. Our Quality Assurance Department works to eradicate all bugs from the game and several factors affect the priority of a fix, which means it's often not a simple design decision.

If you're reporting a bug, it should be posted in our Bug Reporting forum, not a Class Discussion forum.

Q u o t e:
Sure. Mages are your favorite class, but you ignore the mage forums entirely and refuse to even comment on whether certain things are BUGS OR NOT.

You're not asked to promise us buffs. You're not asked to tell us what's coming down the pipe. You're just asked to do YOUR JOB which is to be a conduit between mages and the developpers. If you can't even manage to find out if unlisted changes are bugs or intentional, then you're not even doing the bare minimum of that.

Why is it so hard for you to do your job? A community manager who completley ignores the community he's been specifically chosen to represent is simply not doing what he's paid to do.

I don't represent individual World of Warcraft classes in any way, shape, or form. I'm a Community Manager and represent the game as a whole. This has been stated in at least half a dozen other threads in the last few weeks alone. I'm sorry if anything I've done in the past has created this confusion.

When we have information to provide Mages, myself, or another CM will post an update in your class forum.

Yay! Thanks! Maybe I'll get my fabled +999 Stamina staff at last. (Okay, maybe not, but I can dream about that.)

Oh, and on a semi-related note, I hope that you're enjoying your warlock character. I believe that you mentioned that you went Affliction; if that ever gets a little dull, respecialize around - mess with Demonology! I'd love to hear what you think about it. My build is heavily focused on Demonology/Destruction (with Soul Link), and I couldn't be happier.

I really should try out a mage sometime and see what it's like, too... though I'm only used to playing warlocks.

Actually, upon receiving the free respec last patch, I decided to try Demonology and I'm really enjoying. Although I've not been playing my Warlock as of late. He's probably at full rested by now though. =)

Eyonix-

I post very rarely on these forums, and when I do its only of matters that are very first hand to me. Secondly, I dont think your a bad rep or a lazy person. I think you just have yet to experience what so many of us have, and need to first hand before you understand.

I am astonished to hear that having a 60 mage you think the issues we face are minor. I love the game, I love my guild, I Love blizzard... really I own every one of your games and every expansion since War2.

You certainly MUST be aware of the KEY issues mages face... Obviously wont beat the beaten dead horse and go through them all, but how about the Frost damage. Our frostbolts FULLY resist instead of partially. They CANT benefit from negative resist, unlike every other element. My lvl 1 Blizzard DOESNT WORK. AKA it doesnt hit, snare or do anything. I speced pure blizzard (thats right no shatter or frostbite) just to help out with kiting and CC in MC/AV. Then it gets bugged with absoluetly no comment. I realize Im a rare breed, but please understand what would happen if Ambush or Mortal Strike started doing 0 damage. Itemization is fixed you say? Have you seen unstoppable force? Have you seen our offhands, even with azersong even with +30 spellpower.

Mages arent even asking for buffs, they asking for Bugs (blink, arcane missles, frostbolt) to get fixed, and for itemization to work. Please to not alienate a portion of your fanbase by not replying to mage threads at all.

I hate to go with mob mentality rule, but 90% of a lot of people are upset about something there is atleast a grain of truth in it. THERE is a reason why so many mages have been "whiney" lately. All the trolls seem to think we spontaneously got greedy. However if you think about for 1 min, you will realize that since this "whining" has started mages have gotten to the endgame, seen gamebreaking bugs, and seen no support online. Just something for you to consider.

If you have read this, thank you for your time, I know your a busy man

I'm only stating that the Mage problems which exist, (not referring to game-bugs) are minor when compared to the problems our class designers are currently addressing which affect other classes. I'm in no way attempting to dismiss your concerns, or refer to them as being minor. The Quality Assurance Department is fully aware of each bug which is posted in the Bug Reporting forum, as they're extremely active there. I'm not in control of fixing bugs, unfortunately. I realize they're frustrating and I communicate often the bugs which I see reported on the boards, or experience myself in-game.

Q u o t e:
Maybe the problem is we're not receiving any feedback concerning what bugs they are aware of and working on?

It was awesome for the last patch on the Test servers, the way Ordinn made a sticky on the forums saying "These are the issues we are investigating". Can't we have something like that on every class forum?
