Subject: Slight Maintenance Clarification
Just wondering as no one has really been overly forthright with any specifics. What exactly was so wrong that only certain servers had to be singled out for 24 hour maintenance. This leads one to believe that because it is not an entire network wide issue that it was either a foreseen problem, or a preventable problem. If not then wouldn't the entire network of servers be down?

Another question is what is the whole general purpose of a 1 day credit? This is kind of like kicking someone in the nuts and telling them it is a good thing. I work as a CSR for a large cellular company and I know all about giving out an extremely worthless "time credit". All that the 1 day credit's do is mean you take out the money from our credit cards a day later than normal. Oh Yay! You don't actually loose any money and we don't really get anything. In comes down to a molification issue. You can offer a meaningless and worthless molifier to the general public and everyone is happy. Why not actually offer something that cost's you even less and actually appeases the customer base. Something like rested experience.

For every hour outside of normal maintenance and operating timelines offer the maximum equivacal rested experience. And by that I mean rested experience equivalent to being logged out in an inn or capital city for one day. This being in addition to any rested experience that we would normally gain.

This is just my two cents and it's not I expect to ever get any type of intelligent reply back but what the heck. Worth a try, and miracles have been known to happen.

Realms aren't an all-or-nothing deal. There are a variety of different servers and connection points -- think of them more like being the top limbs of a branching tree. One "branch" had to be taken down in order to perform extensive hardware maintenance on it and all realms connected to it. As anyone who plays on those realms can tell you, there were significant issues occurring that restarts were not resolving. The maintenance is taking place in order to alleviate those issues and make gameplay performance better for all. It is not a decision we make lightly -- we certainly don't like taking down realms for such an extended amount of time -- but there are times when keeping hardware maintained requires such an outage.

As far as the credit goes, it's a gesture extended to players on those realms in apology for the maintenance. I do realize that we cannot "give you back the day", as it were -- no company yet has that power. However, as we did need to do this maintenance, we credited you for the day lost due to our work on the realms. I know it doesn't replace the day, but there is not much else we can feasibly do for players in compensation. It is not something required of us to give, but we do understand how frustrating it can be to find your realm down for a long period of time. We have given full rested experience in the past, but received many, many complaints about it, primarily from level 60 players.
