Subject: Defence Skill
Exactly what does this do...I see it go up though I dont recall seeing any signifigant changes. Ive seen weapon skill effect chane to critical (at least against monsters) and to hit them. When dueling high level players I seem to be able to hit for as much or as often as lower levels save for their increased armour. What does Defence skill actually influence even in monsters against players?

One of the most important things that the Defense attribute currently offers a character is in influencing the percentage at which another player or monster will land a critical strike and/or crushing blow. The development team is currently working to enhance the user-interface to include more detailed information pertaining to abilities and skills such as defense. For example, we'd like to eventually allow for tool-tips to inform players how much ranged and magic crit chance they have against even level opponents.

Q u o t e:
Defense skill increases your dodge, parry, and block rate by .04% per point from equipment/talents. Most people consider the talents that add up to 10 defense to be completely useless.

Agreed. In-game I often see players under-estimate the value of defense, which is one of the reasons we need to make some improvements to our tool-tips so players better understand how some of these attributes affect their character.

As you're probably aware it's much more difficult to fight monsters that are a good deal higher in level than you are. This isn't simply do to the specific level of difficulty of the monster. A player's chance to hit and damage ("glancing blows") is reduced, while the monster's chance to hit and damage ("crushing blows") is increased.
