Forsaken is the excuse i've been hearing from "day" one in reference to any long-ranged ability a paladin can have.

Try playing a paladin in BG? I'm having to "HEAL" the priests who are "TANKING" -- Working as "intended?" Do you see something fundamentally wrong with that picture? A paladin, is in the 'BACK' of the lines, HEALING a 'Priest' who can do "shadow damage." Tell me this is "working as intended."

So perhaps there was 1 aspect of BG where Paladins could just have a little fun with the undead, and you turn them into FORSAKEN? ... What, the developers thought we'd OVER POWER the undead or something?

Please, feel free to tell me the logic behind this great idea-it fails to reason with me and I'm sure every other paladin with have a dignity of being a paladin.

Heh, no, the developers didn't think you'd overpower the Undead -- they witnessed it, along with every other person in Beta at the time. The Paladin spells you name used to work on the Undead player race.

As such, Paladins were an absolute terror in PvP -- but only to the Undead. Those playing Undead had no chance to defend themselves, really; they saw a Paladin and just ran. There was no other recourse. Now, mind you, at this time Undead also had much more powerful racial traits than they do now. Imagine if Will of the Forsaken was a passive, always-on ability, and you'll get some idea of how it worked. ;)

After seeing this dynamic in play over a great deal of time, the designers decided that it was not conducive to a fun play experience, particularly since the racial traits were changing into the iteration in which we know them today and the drawbacks of being Undead would far exceed the benefits. Most people pick their race for aesthetics, after all -- why would you make an entire race undesirable?

I hope that sufficiently explains why.
