Subject: Linux, WINE, and WoW
Hey all, just wanted to ask if anyone here uses the WINE emulator for Linux to run WoW and if so, how well it runs. I have been considering changing my system to Linux, and this is one of my deciding factors.

Thanks,
Squeals

Q u o t e:
Then you're the perfect candidate for using a Linux distro. Nobody's trying to change ya.

:P

The 'point releases' for OS X usually contain more updates and new features than Windows 98 to XP ever did.

10.3 to 10.4 for example.

Accurately speaking, the "point releases" for 10.3 (10.3.1 - 10.3.9) were all free - over a period spanning Oct 2003 to April 2005. The majority of the changes in those free updates were bug fixes and hardware support / driver revisions, although a couple key releases (10.3.5 and 10.3.8) added critical OpenGL functionality that we use in the Mac WoW client.

One can debate endlessly whether the new features and apps in 10.4 are worth the upgrade price. No one is being forced to upgrade, though it seems that the majority of people that do upgrade are happy with the value received.

In the specific case of people running the Mac WoW client, we intend to keep it running on 10.3.x for the lifetime of the product, as has been our policy with our other games, so WoW isn't a factor in the upgrade decision one way or the other - we wouldn't want to leave users stranded and require them to go to a paid OS upgrade to keep playing the game.
