2) How many people will they hold?
3) Will they be instanced like Van Cleef or is there just one version like the tram?

1) Battlegrounds will be coming next patch -- as to when that will be, well, I can't give a time estimate, but it should be fairly soon.
2) Alterac Valley is a 40 vs 40 battleground.
The second is made for smaller, faster play. (No, I don't have further details to give at the moment.)
3) They will be instanced. A queue will be available, which will allow you to do other things while both sides fill up to the number needed.

Yes, it should take you to the instance automatically, I believe.
