Subject: Community Managers
Just a bit curious Blizz, but whatever happened to Blizzard North and why don't you hire community managers for up there. Not everyone lives in California you know. Maybe if you guys opened up Blizzard North to hosting some CM's you guys might get some more applicants and then we could get some decent representation to the dev's. That and someone might actually talk to the community about issues that are of import to the community as a whole. Just curious. And before Fangtooth can get his little murloc underoos in a bunch; I know, wrong forum. Go choke on a squeeky toy.
Narf! Poit! Zort!

...Blizzard North is in California also, and that development house does not work on World of Warcraft.

The reason why we have the Community Team in the Irvine office is to keep tabs on the game and be able to speak with the developers. While you might think the job could be done from afar -- and it could, to an extent -- the plethora of meetings, discussions, etc. in which we take place from day to day would not be possible if the community managers worked remotely.

In all honesty, I would say it's necessary for the community team to be in the office with the various teams.

EDIT: Also, please do not insult Blizzard employees.

Q u o t e:
Cay, we are on a forum of an online game in which millions play, anything is possible, even having a meeting x-country with a webcam...isnt it?

And impromptu meetings? Discussions in the hallway? The developers are always up and about -- contacting them from afar might be difficult or costly.

Knowing what I do about the job and about working remotely (as I've done it in the past), this particular position would not be nearly as effective via remote access.

It is so possible to work from a remote location. WIth the current technology out there and with Net meetings and webcams you all can get together. But of course it is way easier on the staff if both departments were in the same building instead of being in some 3rd world country. =P

Thankfully, the entire North American team (support included) is, in fact, in Irvine. :P

Q u o t e:
if impromtu meeting are the norm, why were we told it took weeks to even talk to the devs about our feedback?

I didn't say they were the norm.

For those class meetings, certain people need to be there, which requires scheduling. Developers are busy people. :)

So then you admit that when you don't give us any specific information about problems, something which happens a LOT, that:

a) you're not telling us the truth

or

b) they're not telling you what's going on during these discussions hence they're not valuable

WHICH IS IT

Ind, do not assume or accuse, please.

Sometimes we simply do not have the specific information to give.
