"I am good at dealing with people!"
Both players and developers have very... passionate views of the game and its various aspects. The developers, being the creators, are protective of their creation; they have reasons why they do what they do, and why things are designed a certain way. The players are not privy to such thoughts, however, and have their own thoughts on the game and its issues seen through the eyes of their character(s). They're two very different viewpoints, and reconciling them can be difficult.
That's where we come in.
Our job is to speak both "languages" -- both player and developer -- while keeping in mind the thoughts and feelings of the group we're addressing. While we tend to speak as The Voice of Blizzard to you folks, internally we're the voice of the playerbase, explaining why players don't like a certain mechanic, or why they're choosing to spend their time doing what they do. Keeping in mind the designers' own sensibilities, we advocate your top concerns and discuss with them what can be done to make all parties happy.
We attend design meetings and keep informed as far as what's coming down the pipe is concerned. We jump in and test features and dungeons before they're implemented so we have a good idea of their functionality. We keep abreast of the latest and greatest.
We plan community-themed events, like contests, and judge them as well.
That's a little taste of what we do on a daily basis. :)
