Subject: A few questions regarding forum policy...
This is not flaming or trolling. I am simply trying to get some answers, and I see no reason why I can't.

First of all, I should let you know that I'm going to discuss two locked posts, which I was told by Fangtooth is against the Code of Conduct for the WoW forums. I hope that the CM's will at least read what I have to say, because in order for me to make my point and perhaps get an answer, I need to bring up these two threads. I'm not goint to link to them, so you need not worry about that.

Yesterday, I posted a thread that was simply asking about what type of music people listen to while they play WoW. I posted this in the general forums. The post was locked almost instantly by Caydiem, stating simply that it was off-topic. I can deal with that. Whether or not this is off-topic could be debated, but I guess Cay felt that it was. The post is certainly about something that doesn't adversely affect game play, so I can see why it could be seen as off-topic.

I must admit, at the time I did not quite get why it was locked (or why so fast, we're talking about ten seconds here). I figured it seemed on-topic, considering the other threads that have gotten pages of response without being locked; some with CM participation. I understand that the CM's cannot monitor the forums 24/7, and inappropriate material is bound to make its way in. So, I posted another thread asking for a reason as to why it was locked. Fangtooth responded, saying that it was off topic because it did not adversely affect game play, and also stating that posting about locked threads is against the Code of Conduct. Fangtooth, forgive me for not quoting you directly, but I believe the thread was deleted. I believe that is more or less what you said.

So, I went and read through the Code of Conduct. I did not find anything on there having to do with posting about locked threads. The only category I could see this fitting under is 'Spamming and Trolling,' and here is exactly what is written in under that category:

  • Excessively communicating the same phrase, similar phrases, or pure gibberish
  • Creating threads for the sole purpose of causing unrest on the forums
  • Causing disturbances in forum threads, such as picking fights, making off topic posts that ruin the thread, insulting other posters
  • Making non-constructive posts

My first question is, how exactly is posting about a locked thread against the Code of Conduct? I didn't excessively communicate anything, I did not cause unrest (I only wanted a question answered), I did not cause disturbance. I suppose my initial post that got locked wasn't very constructive, but the forums are jam-packed with unconstructive threads that don't get locked. For instance, how many threads have there been that are more or less "I'm cancelling my account." How is that constructive?

I can say for sure that Fangtooth said that posting about a locked thread is against the Code of Conduct. However, this is clearly not stated in the Code of Conduct I read.

I recall a thread from a few weeks back that Fangtooth and Caydiem (I think it was Cay) had some posts in. It was at least a page or two of Fangtooh posting only in "Murloc" tongue, and Caydiem coming up with these crazy off-beat responses. I'm sure some of you remember it, because it was absolutely hysterical. Unfortunately, I cannot provide a link because I could not find the post.

As much as I enjoyed it, I don't quite understand why the CM's are allowed to break the Code of Conduct policy. So, I guess my second question is, why can the CM's do that, and I can't start a simple thread about music?

If anyone can give me some answers, I would appreciate it.
Rock out with your 'Lock out.

Why are certain "silly" names allowed on NPCs, but names in a similar vein are not allowed on PCs?

It's a matter of knowing how far to go; in the instance you quote, the thread was locked from the get-go. We do it occasionally to lift the spirits of the forums in the area that gets the most exposure.

Q u o t e:
There's an off topic board. If his thread was off topic why couldnt it just be moved? why lock it?

Nerf CM's.

Because we don't have that functionality.

We're already nerfed. :P
