Gadgetzan is an obvious knockoff of Barter Town from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. In WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne, there was a patch that added a hero, the Goblin Alchemist. The Goblin Alchemist was an obvious knockoff of MasterBlaster. Blizzard seems to be Mad Max fans, so why not make a WoW Goblin Alchemist to be the king of Gadgetzan? Maybe the transmute recipe vendor would be replaced by the ogre who would sell transmutes, and the goblin could be an alchemy trainer or give quests, or whatever you want him to. But Barter Town/Gadgetzan is not complete without MasterBlaster.
p.s. I there already is a goblin alchemist in gadgetzan, disregard this cause I will have just made a complete idiot of myself.

I was just thinking to myself how awesome Masterblaster (the game) really was.
In regards to Mad Max, there are some obvious parallels between the world of Mad Max and the environment of Tanaris, so the designers went with it.
