Subject: 5 CMs for 9 classes?
   I read this
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=2724963&s=blizzard&tmp=1#blizzard

and started wondering, like many of you, why they couldnt possible hire more CMs? It would help the forums, the nerfed classes, and many other positive things.

For the time being, we're keeping things local.

Why?

Obviously it's beneficial for the community team to work in the same office as the developers. We attend design meetings and speak with developers face to face on issues that arise.

This would be harder to accomplish if the people we were hiring were not in-house, as this is an integral part of the job.

We have no plans for a Team Lead program at this time, Maeldryvon. There are volunteer issues to be considered, as well as bias that can result. Also, the management aspects are something to keep in mind, and we do not feel this would work for both the community and community team currently.

Vhasraine, I'm an Assistant Community Manager. I'm not officially a "tester", though I do participate in internal raid and PvP tests to get a handle on certain things on their way.

I am the community's liaison to the development team, and their liaison to you. I take feedback from the forums and discuss them with development. I sit in on design meetings so I know what's coming up, and you do get that information (what information is not confidential, of course) -- not in a "I was at a meeting and this is what happened", post, but rather in answers to questions posed as they're asked.

We discuss the various classes and what's being done in terms of game balance. Most recently we've talked about the Honor System, as evidenced by Eyonix's post.

We also have a bunch of duties that are not necessarily in the public eye at the moment.

   1) Officially it's a 40/wk job, but...

2) I have stayed til 6AM (with my shift starting at 11AM both that day and the next) dealing with realm issues. I have been called at home to deal with emergencies, yes, though often times I can take care of it without coming into the office.

I also spend a good bit of my spare time at home reading the forums, and will at times respond when I'm "off duty". A CM never sleeps. ;)

3) A normal day is a busy day of reading, posting, meeting with the designers (as needed) and juggling projects. A patch day is much, much more hectic. ;)

I can't go into more detail than that.

Sorry, Crorc, but that won't match the day-to-day discussions we have with the developers. A lot of our information comes from informal talks we have in passing.

EDIT: Also, the community team is a very friendly and tight bunch of folks, who work with each other daily. Someone telecommuting would not receive many of the benefits that working in-house brings.

The process really all depends on a variety of factors. If it's a simple question and the developers are available, a simple run-by asking normally gets the job done. If it's a big thing -- such as "Hunter concerns" -- we set up a meeting to go in-depth with the whole thing.
