I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but that's fine.
The dreadsteed is amazing. I just got mine today after the pain of spending large amounts of gold and 5 manning scholomance with pick up groups. But I got it. I absolutely love it.
I'm not complaining about the amount of hard work it takes to get the mount. I think it helps weed out people who don't want to put the man hours in. Besides, if you have a good guild, it shouldn't be as hard for you as it was for me.
What upsets me is that other warlocks in IF who had also just recently acquired their mounts were offering their services to help other warlocks get their steeds for cash. You see, you have to buy these 3 items for the last leg of the quest series that opens a portal and enables you to summon a dreadsteed. All three together cost 250G. However, people who have already finished the quest are able to still use these reagents. So other warlocks could conceivably bypass the 250 G that others have worked for and just have another warlock summon them their steed for a price. Or for FREE if their friends.
I know all of you warlocks that don't want to spend the money are going to be pissed at me, but I think it's a flaw in the system. I worked hard for the gold and it was worth it. So being able to bypass that 250G just doesn't seem fair to people like me who worked hard for the mount, or for other people that spent 900G on theirs.

The reagents required to open the portal are not consumed when you use them, that is correct. It was done this way so that Warlocks who have the reagents will be able to open the portal for themselves or others at a later time. The trade off for this is that any Warlock who does not have the reagents will not be able to create their own portals and they will be at the mercy of others.
