If any of you are not aware, game retail chains such as EB take in previously owned copies of PC games, including ones that require logins to play such as the Half-Life games on Steam and ofcourse, World of Warcraft. My friend purchased one of these pre-owned copies a few months ago with no problems.
Just a few nights ago he found he was unable to log into his account. The person who had originally owned the account contacted my friend and informed him that he was taking it back. The original owner contacted him through the information in the account. Naturally my friend was pissed. I scolded him for being stupid and not changing the password of the account. Fortunately, the original owner was not all that bright and when my friend asked him if he could use the account for just one more night, he said yes. My friend quickly logged onto the WoW site and changed the password back.
The original owner and my friend had further communications in which the original owner told my friend that he was going to contact Blizzard in order to get the account back. My friend scoffed at the idea of Blizzard giving up an account that he has been paying for and has all his personal information tied to it. Well guess what? Blizzard gave the original owner his account back tonight. The account that my friend bought from EB, has been paying Blizzard for, containing all his personal information such as address and cc#, have been handed over to someone that sold the game back to EB.
This is an absolute outrage! Blizzard has such poor customer service that I'm amazed they haven't imploded. For the record in case any Blizzard employees have the urge to research the matter, the account name in question is Altima.

Your friend wouldn't have been able to create an account with an authentication code that had already been used, meaning this entire story couldn't have played out as it was written. I'm not sure what really happened but I advise your friend to email billing@blizzard.com for clarification and possible resolution to this matter.

Q u o t e: My friend never created a new account. I don't recall ever saying that. However, I did mention serveral times that my friend used the account that the original owner of the game created, which he purchased along with the installtion CDs from Electronics Boutique.
People: Is it that hard to understand?
I don't understand how he could have used the original owner's account unless this was purchased directly from the individual. Again, I would advise your friend to contact our Billing department as something here doesn't sound right.

Kimimaro the situation you have stated isn't possible. This is why...
You said your friend bought the game from EB which may be entirely true. However EB does *not* sell accounts, they sell the game, which includes a unique Authentication Key that can only be used once, to make a single account.
If someone else had already used this authentication key to create an account, your friend should have gotten an "Authentication Key in use" error when trying to make their own account. At this point, if a customer gets this message, we advise an immediate return to the store or an exchange for a new key through Blizzard. This is standard procedure for our calls and emails and is posted on our support site:
http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowbilling/?id=abl01117p
What is in question here is if someone else set up an account using the unique copy of the game, is how someone got access to an account they definitely didn't create and do not have their name on (rather than contacting us or getting a proper copy to make an account in their name).
Having the box by itself does not necessarily grant access to any account in any way shape or form. Whenever Blizzard provides password information, the account must be verified using personal information that was entered when the account was set up (and which cannot be changed). The authentication key, while unique to a copy, is a one time use to create the account and does not prove ownership of that account.
The Sharing/Selling of accounts is completely against the Terms of Service. The only way someone gained access to this account is if they acquired access directly from the owner and not EB. If you feel any account is being accessed by someone other than its original owner, you should contact wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com immediately with as much information as possible about the situation.
Thank you.
