Subject: The Game Master
After hearing so many complaints about the support of GMs and reading on Blizzards website I wonder why more people havent adapted on Ultima Online's GM system.

The way it first started was having mainly two support groups. The GMs and the Counselors. The GMs managed the Counselors but only solved things the Counselors couldnt fix (EX: Bugged instance raids) while the Counselors helped respond to customers with questions and minor bug fixes.

While GMs are paid and there are fewer of them...the Counselors consisted of unpaid people who played UO themselves for free due to the work they do assisting the company with their customer basis. Because of this it helped to increase Customer Support and it also lessened the amount of GMs required.

So I kinda wonder blue...why not use the idea to help increase Customer Support and also lessen the jobs of GMs and the amount of GMs you have to actually higher? Instead advertising on Blizzard.com that you need a few Counselors per server with a payment of a free WoW account? That would definately draw in the crowd and would also allow people to feel as though theyre actually talking with someone who sympathizes with their problems in game.

Due to the legal issues and management concerns surrounding volunteers, we do not plan upon having a system like this at this time.

Q u o t e:
Legal issues and management? Thats what you pay the GMs for and this is also what contract agreements are for bud. This isnt something a 13 year old kid could go and sign up for. Its something adults only can do.

Even with that, there are legal issues. There have been in the past with other games. While I cannot link you to such articles, some research on what happened to the program you cited might give you some insight into why we're not doing this sort of program at this time. :)
