Subject: Warcraft Weekly - Episode Thirty Four
Sorry for posting this early, but have to go in a few hours. This will be my last WW for a few months due to some large issues I need to take care of. Hope to see you all soon! I'd like to keep my reasons private, so if anybody knows why I'm posting this now, please don't reply about it.

What - Why - When

Aeus has posted some information(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=916074) about AddOns for the new patch. Various AddOns have been announced to be illegal, including CT_Raid Assist, Decursive, Titan Bar, Gypsy Mod, Flexbar, Atlas, Cosmos and Nurfed UI, because they have added features not intended by the default UI. If you are caught using them you will be banned, so please be careful.

Thundgot brings us word(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=917025) on new realms! A set of 5 RP-PVE realms will be released sometime in april. They will all be migration realms from any ruleset, including PvP, the first migration of this type ever. Names are: Eredar, Sloof Lirpa, Lothar, Illidan and Cenarian.

Aeus has released(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=917813) the Blizzard Background downloader. While you're playing it will download, in the background, the next patch. Because there are so many people playing, it will be slow enough to not finish until Blizzard release it for normal downloading, unless you have a T1 line or better, which will allow you to receive the patch a few days/weeks early depending on the time that you play. The current patch is 1.10.1, but after that the 1.11 download should start.

New Alliance Race Revealed

They promised us a surprise this Quarter and we got it! The new alliance race has finally been announced by Blizzard. The new race is the Wisps(http://www.wow-europe.com/en/burningcrusade/townhall/wisps.html). Before you say NO WAI!! Remember what the designers said last year, that it would make you say "What?" and be confused for a while, before you go "Oh, I get it" and see how well it fits into the game.

"Even though they are commonly believed to be purely benign spirits of the night elves' sacred forests, a part of the primal energy that was used to destroy the terrible eredar warlord slumbers in all wisps. Should a wisp decide that its time has come, it can unleash all its energy in one devastating detonation. Although this can potentially turn the tide of battle, the wisp's energies will dissipate beyond any hope of recovery; the wisp's detonate ability is the ultimate sacrifice. A heavy cost; but the wisps, the ancient guardians of nature, pay it gladly."

The wisps are the fastest race to level, and are very overpowered in combat, but their best ability requires them to permanently die, thus balancing the class fairly. Their racial traits are:
  • Detonate: Destroys the wisp, dispelling all magical buffs and draining 50 mana from each unit in an area around the wisp.
  • Gatherer: Skill to herbalism, mining, and skinning increased by 10.
  • Permanent Death
  • Treeform: Turns the wisp into a tree for 30 seconds. During this time, spirit is increased by 300. However, the wisp's chance to dodge or parry axes is reduced by 50%.

Because of this revelation, the expansion cannot be too far away, and the devs have hinted at an early summer release in the US and a late autumn release in the EU and Asia.

    Hungry?

Now I think this announcement is even better than the Alliance race one. Blizzard are pushing their business into a new area: Food. Have you ever seen an item of food in Warcraft, Starcraft or Diablo that you really liked the look of? No? Me neither. But Blizzard are releasing some goddamn tasty food with some secret gamesque recipes.

    For example:
  • Red Dragon Wings - Spicy Buffalo Chicken wings.
  • Arbiter - An iceberg salad with grillled chicken breast served in an arbiter-shaped bowl.
  • Marine Wedges - Spicy potato wedges with sour cream.
  • Zealot Fries - French fries with a "special" sauce.
  • And many more!

To see more food and some great group discounts, read their press release(http://www.blizzard.co.uk/press/060401.shtml) on it. They seem to have been working on it a while, as the first company-owned restaurant is going live on June 1st 2006 in downtown LA, California. It may be the US now, but we can expect some over here by the end of the year, I can't wait!

"Blizzard has experienced tremendous growth in the past 15 years, but none of that growth would have been possible on an empty stomach," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "BurgerCraft will allow us to share many of Blizzard's delicious secret recipes and celebrate the rich cuisine of the Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft universes with our players."

    1.10

Patch 1.10 has gone live, login to download it!

You can read the full notes in my sticky(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=917266)

Next wednesday there will be some extra downtime to add Patch 1.10.1, which will include the Spell Breaker class(http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/classes/spellbreaker.html) which was left out of the main patch last week due to technical difficulties. He will be available to Humans and the Forsaken, but will also be options for Wisps and Blood Elves in the expansion.

Some people have reported issues about the new patch, and the Gamemaster has posted what are actually bugs(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=920270) in it.

These will be fixed on Wednesday:
  • The quest ‘Defenders of Darrowshire' is currently not possible to complete.
  • Chromaggus time lapse debuff is currently lowering player's health more than intended.
  • The shooting animation is not always playing correctly.
  • Nature's Grace does not proc correctly after spell crits.
  • The Sand Vortexes in the Ossirian the Unscarred -- encounter are currently invisible.
  • Shamans still can't be killed

These are not bugs, and are working as intended:
  • Onyxia spams Deep Breath
  • Dwarves run at 80% speed when not in Ironforge
  • You can no longer enter major cities of the opposite faction
  • Neutral guards attack you if you have a weapon equipped

THE 1.11 NOTES HAVE BEEN LEAKED ON THE US FORUMS CONFIRMED BY AN EX-CM: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-realm-blackrock&t=240341 - These seem great, especially for the mage class. MUST SEE. They will be deleted soon, so look fast!

    New Looting Option

Aeus explains(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=919341) about the Master Looter bugs that have been reported. This is working as intended, Master Looting is no longer available, and has been replaced along with N/G, group loot and FFA by a new system: Auto Loot.

Auto Loot uses a complex formula to find out who needs an item most and who deserves it. If you already have it, you won't get it. If you stand back and do nothing, you won't get it. This applies to all items, not just Green+, and money splits.

It also has a DKP feature that can be turned on by typing /dkpon after choosing Auto Loot from the menu. A raid leader can then configure the DKP that will be saved for the next Auto Loot raid you do.

    Unexpected Downtime

Thundgot tell us(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=924256) some bad news. During the night one of the main servers overheated, and 4 realms went down. Well it seems that the others are going that way too and need to be replaced. All realms will be down from 12:00 Paris Time except Kor'gall, Lightning's Blade, Twisting Nether and Vashj. This should improve performance on the affected realms to something bearable, at least until the new hardware is installed mid-aprilish. Please be patient, and don't spam the Tech Support Forum, it should be over soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    New Blizzard MMO leaked

After all these years of waiting, it turns out that Starcraft: Ghost was a codename for something a lot bigger, World of Starcraft. Information has been leaked by one of the designers to a popular gaming website.

You can read the preview now, here(http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/worldofstarcraft/news.html?sid=6146918) - This looks to be another can't miss MMO from Blizzard. Hell, I think if it's as good as it looks, I might quit WoW for it!

A release date has not been mentioned yet, but they've been working on it almost as long as WoW now, so it can't be too far away. More screenshots on their way...
