Felt like doing something to try and help the community, so I wrote a MASSIVE guide on mounts in warcraft, thanks to the rest of the Kotri guild for the help.
It took me a long time so I hope you enjoy
Please post to bump for great justice!!

To start, here is the link to Blizzard's official page on mounts, it covers all the basics and such about mounts which won't be explained in this guide (but referred to), you can see the different types, costs and where to get them all from here:
http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/mounts.html
Additional Information
-The "very fast" mounts, as mentioned in the tool tip, are usually referred to as "Epic Mounts" by players, although their actual item quality may vary
-Normal mounts cost 80g, but the 20g training is what makes it 100g, this makes buying multiple mounts cheaper, but Epic Mounts require the same ability as the normal ones, yet epic mounts cost 1000g
-The information about tauren on the page isn't strictly true anymore
-When riding your mount, all damage is directed to you, you can carry on riding but some attacks will dismount you (mobs have a spell that does it), not sure how a player dismounts someone.
-You can't mount when in combat
-Mounts have a 3 second casting time
-You can't move while casting
-Becoming exalted with another race allows you to train in their riding skill; this is what prevents you from using their mount (unless there is a racial barrier)
-Paladin and Warlock mounts are spells that come from quests, their casting time is the same and they cost 100 mana and 150 mana (for epic mount)
-If you are hit while casting your mount, the casting time will be affected like any spell
-You can press the space bar on your mount when stationary to do a special emote (I think some sound effects were added in a recent patch)
-You can right click the mount buff icon to dismiss your mount as well, there are sound effects upon summon, dismiss and "landing from a big fall" for your mount
-Mounts are simply items that cancel and give a buff, and change your model and such; there is no kind of "pet" relationship or anything
-You can mount inside instances as long as they are outdoors (Zul'Gurub, Zul'Farrak and others)
-You can usually move in doors for a few seconds before the server pings that you're indoors
-Any other points about how people tend to use mounts in World of Warcraft you will generally pick up by sight about how people behave and so and such. For example when you get on a boat, you may notice that some people will go up to the net and find a place where it allows them to mount (through geometry bug), that's just general practice that people know, when you do get yours, you'll pick up what its like and how it works pretty quickly.
Getting your mount cheaper
For a lot of people getting the money for their mount is very difficult, they find it hard to save up, or have trouble making the money, I'm not going to go into how to do this, there are other guides around on the subject (although I got mine because there was a craze for Kingsblood at the time, and you could sell a stack for around 7g). Here are some tips though of how to get it cheaper
-Become honoured with your faction (10% discount), although by level 40 this is usually no problem
-Get to Rank 3 in PvP for another 10% discount (on repairs as well)
-Check the Auction House, a few times I've seen generous people place mounts on the Auction House (they're bind on use) cheaper than they are from a vendor, these are there to help you out but remember to check you have the riding skill or can afford it., You'll see these under the Miscellaneous tab.
I'm personally against getting loans for your mount, as I feel it takes the sense of accomplishment out of it, if you Google for guides then DON'T pay any attention to sites that sell gold or "money making guides" for real money.
-Start saving for your mount a few levels before and don't buy ANYTHING you don't need immediately, that's what I did and got my mount as soon as I hit 40
-Find a place where the market is strong and work through that[ post edited by Salsh ]
