Subject: Advice to forum posters
Like a lot of forums throughout the Internet, WOW has become little more than a flame/moan fest for most people and as a result you also get other people flaming and moaning at the flamers/moaners.
This results in several things :-

1. A lot of serious hardgoing players of the game don't even bother to participate on the forums due to the pointless/nastiness/rudeness and general worthlessness of most of what is written there.

2. Blues lose interest and don't bother posting on most chains due to 95% of what is being written there is...to be honest pointless. This results in further chains of "why don't the blues respond?" and thus the circle of idiocy continues.

So here are my advice to posters on these forums. If you want your post to be read, understood and responded to by people and blues alike, i think the following would be worth adhering to:-

Creating a thread

1. Blues
Some people do not fully understand what Blues really are. They are employees of Blizzard and they are to a limited respect their spokespersons, but they have rules and regulations they have to adhere to. If the developers(the people with real power) don't want something said, the blues cannot say..and in some cases might not even tell the blues what it is. they are messengers, small time spokesman/women so even if they do want to answer all your questions...they can't unless a) there is an answer and b) the biggies upstairs tell them it's ok.
In essence, don't shoot the messenger..it isn't their fault they can't tell you the answer to your questions. If they say "it is being looked into" then it probably is.However it is not by them, but the developers instead.

2. Keep your posts constructive
If you create a thread a thread that just says
"Buff us"
"Nerf them"
This is a useless posting. You are saying nothing to the blues(who can pass on useful/informative/constructive/interesting threads to the devs). All you are saying is i am not powerful enough.
In order to make the posting constructive, do some of the following :-
a. Why - What happened to you to make you feel this way. Give specific examples if possible
b. What - What do you need buffed? Are you saying your offense is bad or your defense or your gear...what do you think is wrong, and what are your suggestions for the fix.
Remember, you are the guys that play these roles and no amount of testing in-house experience can compare with a million players, say what you want.

3. Be realistic - understand what you are asking for.
What effect will it have on other players?
What effect will it have on other classes?especially in PVP this is important.
What will it do to the role of yur char in the game? e.g. giving mages plate armour is just not possible due to mages designed as weaker chars than most others.

4. Try and keep it original
I've seen 3 separate threads on the SAME page in some forums(a good example is the alliance race question)
Why are you creating yet another thread that says the same thing as one that is 2 lines below it?
Either you are too lazy to even look, or you are just trying to make yourself feel important by having a thread with your name against it. Either way you devalue the other thread(s) that deal with your subject and most people will only ever look at one of these anyway. Not to mention the spamming your thread will get of "old", "already been discussed"..etc.
When you want to create a thread look at the postings over the last few pages. Is your subject there? Yes, then post your opinion/comment there. If not, then fine. Go ahead and create your post.

Responding to a thread

Respondees can be just as bad as original posters and in some cases worse. They can take a potentially interesting/useful/enlightening/enjoyable thread and ruin it to the point that it becomes nothing more than "another rubbish thread". so if you want to post a response to a thread, please..

1. Be constructive
If you think someone is a noob because they worse +spirit gear to a pvp match then don't just say "Noob","L2P"...etc. Say what you think they did wrong, offer advice on gear they could be wearing or say how you think they should be playing.
When a thread get's spammed with these kind of postings, they offer nothing to the discussion and nothing to the op or anyone else on that thread.

2. Respect the subject of your post
This is important, you need to remember a few things.
a. Not everyone plays WOW for 18 hours a day, has 6 lvl 60chars and a couple of Grand Marshall weapons in their pocket.
b. Flaming a specific person is little more than abuse. I don't abuse someone i see playing football down the park just because i am better than them. I might ignore them or i might offer some advice, but i won't walk up to them and say"Noob","L2p","go and play netball you idiot"..etc.
Why should the Web be any different?

A little respect goes a long way. You don't talk to people like that in real life, don't do it online either!!

3. Keep your post on subject
It's amazing how many threads there are with people holding separate little discussions(or usually flaming each other) that have nothing to do with the subject at hand. don't ruin a thread like this..please.

4. Counter suggest
I've seen some potentially excellent posts recently(Mage and Shaman threads especially), about certain peoples idea for how the revamps should be for their class. Some poeple put a heck of a lot of effort into these postings(1 guy on the mage thread created his own talent calculater, which was quite impressive).
They have worked hard to post their suggestions, if you don't like their suggestions then say why?
If you like the concept behind their suggestions but think there are things missing/wrong/too weak/powerful etc, then say so but put your own suggestion up.

This is what creates a discussion, 2 or more people with different views on the same subject, both with their ideas and theories makes IMO the best kind of thread to read. It allows me to read both arguements and decide for myself which idea is best. This is also good for when/if a blue reads it. He/she can read the ideas for all sides and think..hmmm, this is interesting, i'll forward this to the devs.

Anyway, i love WOW and i've seen some great threads, some funny/playful ones. I just wish we had more of them rather than people having to search for one that is not rubbish or been ruined by spammers/idiots.

Any other advice for posters i'd love to hear. This is my idea of proper posting, but you may have your ideas.

hmm..i've just previewed this and it is long...but i hope people read it anyway. Thanks
