Subject: 17/03 - Programmable gaming peripherals
Recently, players expressed some concern over the use of programmable gaming peripherals while playing World of Warcraft. We want to make sure it's clear that creating hotkeys for certain actions in the game is ok. However, if these peripherals are used to automate gameplay to the point where the player is able to conduct repeated actions in the game without paying attention, then that will constitute a violation of our game policies. The use of sustained automated play grants an unfair advantage over players who earn their achievements by actively playing through the game as it was designed. In the interest of maintaining an even playing field for all players, we will investigate reports of automated play and take action as needed to prevent this from occurring in the game.

Q u o t e:
So does the simple action of using third party software to create delays in macros constitute an offence?

I'm sure if you search your conscience you will find an answer to that question, Anvil ;)

Q u o t e:
Thank you Aeus for some sort of post regarding this matter, however I unfortuantely have to say that im disappointed with the overall content of the responce. Not because I use the keyboard in this respect, its more than its taken nearly 4months to get this... vague answer which really doesn'nt cover what the players want to know.

You state that "the player is able to conduct repeated actions in the game without paying attention". I'll take an example of one of my macro's for healing. I currently have a few mana conserving mods which when I heal, it picks the person who has the least health from the CT_RaidAssist Emergency meter and then appropriate heals based on the health deficit. I can put this on a loop if I so wish, however, this is no different from a player making an identical macro using ingame commands, and just spamming the butto while not paying attention. Is this acceptable? Maybe, but then the blue has'nt been specific enough. I'm not asking for every eventuality that could occur, every situation where the keyboard is used, but if we could get a few examples of what is ok and whats not, im sure everyone would feel a lot happier and safer.

For example, even if its as simple as...

Automating Decursive - Illegal, may not me on a repeatable timer
Automating Healing - Legal, but may not be on a repeatable timer

I thank you Aeus for creating this post, but I must ask you to clarify once again.

Many thanks

Miranda, you're quoting my text which is all in context of gaming peripherals (hence the title) but comparing to the in-game mods that you use.
