Its 2am and ive just come back form the postbox which now contains a covering letter and CV sent to Blizzard Entertainment in Paris.
Would be nice to be one of those guys in Blue but ive got no idea if id be able to adapt to life in France if im one of the chosen few who make it all the way to those Offices.
Perhaps one of the other CM's will be able to clue me in on life over there, or someone on here who's done this kind of thing before :P

I will see about updating that FAQ this week if I can find time, some parts are pretty out of date. But if you have specific questions about life in France etc, just feel free to post them :)

Q u o t e: Ah, france, the country of wine, baquettes, and, not to forget, the Eiffel Tower ;)
Your life in France as a Blizzard employee will probably look like this:
..........
[middle part left out to avoid a too long quote]
..........
I hope this gives you an impression of your new job - good luck getting it ;)
That pretty much covers it :-)

Q u o t e: Hi Guys,
I actually live in France (work in Switzerland and are from Austria). I think the job is quite interesting if you like that kind of thing (but dont expect to play WoW all day long -> it is a JOB). However, why many do not apply for these jobs is the fact that - correct me if i am wrong - Blizzard europe headquarters is not in Paris but in some suburb, in the "banlieue" so to speak. Well that says it all I'd say (not only because of recent happenings there - cars are burned everywhere in France that is quite normal) but it is in general not really the nicest place to be in France.
GMs should comment here and I'd be glad to hear something different (might be that the suburb where Blizzard is is an exception ...)
Cheers
Praesi
The Blizzard Europe headquarter is indeed not located inside of Paris, but in one of the suburbs very close to Paris.
This can frighten some people because of the recent riots (Which seems to be over now by the way), but to this I can say that they did not happen in this area where our offices are located. The Blizzard Europe headquarter is located in a commercial area that is primarily consisting of office buildings and shopping centers.

Q u o t e: I was also thinking about sending a cv, but i decided not to since i thought maybe it was pointless since i'm sure everyone would want a job at blizzard and its something ive always wanted no matter what the job would be (I'm an expierenced water boy ^^) Could any blue give an example of the amount of cvs you recieve and more specific requirements since the job description page doesnt show needed qualifcations, work times etc.
We receive quite a few job applications for various positions in the different departments here, but I do not have any exact number I can give to you.
I can say for sure that if you are interested in working for Blizzard you should not be discouraged from sending a job application just because there is a chance that many others are doing the same thing. All job applications are taken seriously and all of them gets reviewed and considered.
The requirements for each job should be listed on the job opportunity pages, which you can find here:
http://www.blizzard-europe.com/jobopp/index.shtml
I cannot give you any specific details on working hours, since this is something that varies from department to department. This is something you will be informed about during a job interview :-)

Q u o t e: I too have applied today, so what I want to know is how does the price of living compare say London, I'm expecting Paris to be fairly dear. Also, do most employees live a bus ride away, Or is private transportation a must?
Most Blizzard Europe employees live fairly close to work, which has good puplic tranportation coverage. Going to work usually involves a single busride and to some also a short ride in the Parisian metro :-)

Q u o t e:
Another question to Blizz employees, what recrational amenities are there on site, or located close by. I ask this with a view towards gyms and sports centres, also Cinemas which show English films would be nice.
There are plenty of recreational stuff to do both close to work and of course in Paris and nearby Versailles.
There is a huge shopping mall just 10 minutes walk away from the offices. Here there are gyms, cinemas, plenty of shops, restaurants, etc.
In Paris you can of course find pretty much every thing your heart may desire of activites, and in Versailles there are plenty of stuff also :-)

Q u o t e: Well now it has been brought up I might also post here.
I have just done my resume and CV to Blizzard, and I'll be sending it the day I turn 18. That is in 3 months ;) I still hope I have a chance as a 'youngster' :) Is it possible to get a conversation private with one of the CM's about the job :) ?
Unfortunately I cannot give out any personal contact Information, so I guess the forums is the best form of communication we have :-)

Q u o t e: My main concern is how i would react to meeting Aeus. In my mind he is a small green fellow who will shake my and and say "Eyyya" in a Booty Bay Bruiser accent, then point out the fact "time is money friend" anything less will leave me bitterly dissapointed.
Afraid I'm rather shy. You probably wouldn't even notice me..

Q u o t e: what about language?
do they speak any english in france or do you have to learn the language?
Well this varies a lot from place to place depending on where you go. Here at the offices we speak English though.
As a Blizzard Europe employee you will get an opportunity to receive French lessons for free.

Q u o t e: Few questions about what and how.
1. How does the work in the office look like? Do people know each other, hang out together?
2. How does it look like after hours? Are people banding together for beers, gym, sightseeings or whatever? Or everyone goes home to get a nap for the night shift? :P
3. How many people actually use the gym and recreation out there?
4. Is the caffeteria upstairs(i think) any decent? Or everyone runs to Velizy2/Mcdonalds for food?
5. Are people living in the same district or street, or its just random rented apartments for everyone?
6. What are the prices for say a studio apartment within max 20 minute commute time?
7. What's the gender balance in the office? 80:20 ? 70:30? :)
8. How long is the initial traning? What is being done there more-or-less?
'nuff for now. If i think of something else i'll post here for sure.
Go go blue, givf answers.
That was a lot of questions in one go :-)
1. We are quite a few people working here, but generally we have a very nice and friendly working atmosphere. I would say that the people working here know each other pretty well, and all of us have someone from work they like to hang out with and spend time with.
2. For sure yes. After work beer and restaurant visits is quite common. When the weather is good it is not uncommon that people do other things like sightseeing, going to Disneyland and Asterix Park, barbeques and picnics, etc. A lot of people also like going to the cinema, going clubbing, going bowling, playing pool and so forth. I am sure some people like to go home and take a nap also. :-)
3. I cannot give you a precise number of course, but some people working here do go to gyms and similar recreational facilities a few times each week.
4. The cafeteria here is decent for sure and it is being used by many people. But of course some people prefer to go to Velizy2/Mcdonalds for food. There are also those who likes to bring their own food :-)
5. Most people are living fairly close together, which is quite nice. Generally most Blizzard Europe employees live either in Versailles or the southern parts of Paris.
6. This really varies a lot, so it is hard to give a specific number. I would say that it is not uncommon to pay around 500 Euro per month.
7. Hmm… Tough question.
8. This again varies a lot depending on which department you work in. I cannot give any specific details on this however.[ post edited by Vaneras ]

Q u o t e: You can play with your guild and mates and post on forums and whatnot. Its suggested that you keep your job profile for yourself though, mainly for your own comfort.
This is correct :-)
Q u o t e: As for shopping mall - its 5 minutes walk tops, tested :P
Hmm... Always takes 10 minutes for me, but I guess I am a slow walker :-)

Q u o t e: Question to a GM.
If you get invited after having a phone conversation wich they thought went very well, what can I expect? I'm going to france the 28th of march for a live interview. Any tips? Anything I can expect? Let me know! Do I still need to worry if I'm going to france for the second part if I'm hired or not?
I'm looking forward to get over there. Please let me know if you can give me any pointers.
Unfortunately I cannot help you with this question, but I would suspect that you will get all the information you need and all your questions answered when you get here :-)
