Subject: Compromised Account Question!
I am posting on behalf of a friend of mine that got his account compromised recently. I have various questions about the process.

He tried logging on after work and couldn't, he's been using the same password for a few months now so it's not like he couldn't remember it. That said, his account has shown nothing else than having a "wrong password". He thought he had been hacked so he asked me to look to see if his characters were online. We are in the same guild so it was quite easy to keep track of the characters.

No one logged on his main character or his Alt 60 for over 24 hours then all of a sudden at 3h30AM in the middle of the night, the day after, all 4 of his characters that were in our guild /gquit WITHOUT anyone ever logging on them. Strange thing too, his characters all left within 1 minute. So we figured out... someone must have transferred/deleted them since it's the only known way for characters to leave a guild without logging on them and using /gquit. But we can still add his characters to our friend list, and we can't create characters with that name on the server. Wich means the character are still there... That aside, here's the problem.

First, my friend didn't buy and/or register the account to his name when he started playing. An old friend of his bought the game, played 2 weeks of the 1 month free trial then gave the game to my friend because he didn't like it. He changed the address but never got to change the name and phone number.

Here's what he has:

1- All the informations found on the account, that includes the phone number and name of his friend. The rest being his current address.

2- He has the answer to his secret question but not the exact spelling.

3- He has the original box and the CD-Key that were used to register the account.

4- He's been paying for the account for over a year now and can prove it with various 2 months Pre-paid card and the Credit Card informations found on the account.

That said, he moved from Quebec to British Colombia and didn't speak with his friend nor kept contact with him. So is there any way for him to recover the account and have it fixed (If anything happened to the characters) without needing his friend's authorization or contact info?

Also based on the informations I gave, the weird /gquit thing and the lack of informations... do you think his account got hacked or it's something else?

Thank you for your time :)

Q u o t e:
If I do remember correctly, the TOS was changed sometimes this year. You used to be able to give your account to someone as long as you gave your CD-Key and the original box with it, and of course didn't charge for it.

This is not correct unfortunately. It has never been permitted to trade/transfer your account to another person. I believe you are confusing the issue with the transfer of the World of Warcraft box and box contents. This is permitted in the EULA but of course does not cover the transfer of any associated account. Transferring a World of Warcraft account is expressly forbidden and in violation of section 1.E of the World of Warcraft Terms of Use:
    E. Blizzard Entertainment does not recognize the transfer of Accounts, and any authorized transfer of the World of Warcraft software (as set forth on the worldofwarcraft.com website) will result in the permanent deletion of the Account attached to that software. You may not offer any Account for sale or trade, and any such offer is a violation of this Agreement and may result in suspension or termination of the Account.

Half King of Beasts + half Monarch of the Skies = ?
