Hi there customer service forum/GM's, hopefully you can offer some help or some insight into my problem...
I originally made this character as a joke after my friends and I saw the lackluster performance of Mr. Cruise in MI:3. Anyways, as you can see I've stuck with this character for some time now and I regret having named him as I did. On that note, I opened a ticket and spoke to a GM who said my name was not in violation of the "celebrity" or "public figure" part of the naming policy. I was upset, as that was clearly my intent (and, judging by the responses I get from the LFG channel, the general consensus of my name from other players) and I would really like to have it changed.
Another example:

(3rd post down on that thread)
Anyways, is there anything I can do, did I just get a bad GM, or am I stuck with this name until death do us part?
EDIT: If it comes down to it and the Tom Cruise thing isn't "close enough" to be changeable, there is also:
www.cruise.com
Trademarks
This category includes both clear and masked names which:
* Are trademarked/licensed by a company or an individual
If a player is found to have such a name for their character, guild, or pet, and the trademark owner protests its use, he/she may:
* Be prompted to select a new name for the character upon next login
Copyright at the bottom of the site sums it up.
/shrug
I feel like a jerk making a statement like that, but I really, *really* hate being called Tom Cruise/scientologist by everyone, and I'll do what it takes to get it changed.
Thanks again.[ post edited by Cruise ]
I walk single file to hide your numbers.

I'll be straight with you, Cruise. Although you say that it was "clearly" your intent to name this character after a celebrity who happens to share the same last name, the fact of the matter is that the word cruise carries a number of different connotations nnd denotations, most of which have little or nothing to do with Hollywood; there is therefore insufficient cause to change your character's name due to that particular portion of our Naming Policy. Bear in mind that it is the Game Master Department's interpretation of our policies which is taken into consideration when determining whether a character's name should be changed, and all such changes are at the sole discretion of Blizzard Entertainment.
As for your argument concerning Cruise.com, I'd ask you to note a rather important bit of that policy: "...and the trademark owner protests its use." You are more than welcome to have that organisation contact our Legal Department and formally protest the use of "Cruise" in the World of Warcraft, but until then that clause does not apply in the slightest. I do apologise, however, for your apparent distaste for the name you have chosen, and would strongly recommend considering carefully any names you may select in the future, to ensure that this unpleasantness may be avoided. If there is anything more with which I may be of some clarification, friend, please do let me know. I wish you the best. :)
Look at my works, ye mighty, and despair...
