Dear GMs,
About two hours ago, I was in a group sitting in Stormwind Keep waiting for the WSG que to pop. I have a character, Sarn, who belongs to a guild that just does lv 20-29 WSG. We do it for fun and reputation, we aren't necessarily a big "twink" guild.
Anyway, as I was sitting in the keep, some level 60s ran in and initiated the Onyx quest. One of my group members was standing where one of Onyx's guards spawn. As soon as the guard spawned, he immediately killed my group member (I assume from proximity aggro). No one in my group ever attacked the guard or in any other way interferred with quest. When the level 60s who started the quest eventually killed the aforementioned guard, I, for some reason unbeknownst to me, receieved over 1k xp. This leveled me to lv. 30, and out of the bracket my guild plays in.
No, it wouldn't be that big of a deal to level a new character to 29, but what I can't replace is all the reputation I've earned! When I was leveled to 30, I was only 11856/12000 from being revered. Needless to say, this has taken me FOREVER to get as I'm only a casual gamer. Please, please, please roll my xp back to what it was prior to this tragic event. I haven't used any of the WSG marks I have in my bag or in the mail to increase my xp or reputation after I was leveled to 30. This was in no way my fault, nor could I have prevented it(except from removing myself from any groups while waiting in stormwind, which I will do from now on).
Again, any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Unfortunately, we will be unable to de-level your character, Sarn. It sounds as though Onyxia's guard was tagged by your group after attacking a party member, as Tandaa mentioned. Once this creature was killed, everyone in your group within the area should've received experience. This is the intended design of experience gains. Although this maybe an inconvenience to you, there are no measures put into place in-game to help players avoid leveling characters. The natural ebb of the game is to move upward through the levels.
Truth hurts and this is gonna be agonizing!

Q u o t e: We didn't tag the guard, there were only three of us in the group. By the time we figured out how one of our group members had been killed, the lv 60s had already killed the guard and the damage (xp to me) had been done. I understand the nature of the game is to progress, but if I enjoy playing in a certain level bracket, why should that matter? Surely the GMs have the technical capability to roll back xp, you don't even have to roll back all of it, just 300! That would put me back to 29.
You received experience legitimately. We will be unable to degress your character.

Q u o t e: Thanks for your help. A+
p.s. How a level 29 "legitimately" receives 1k+ xp for killing a lv60 elite mob is beyond my understanding.
I've inquired into this matter a little bit further to hopefully help you understand what happened while you were Away From Keyboard inside Stromwind Keep.
The other members of your group did, in fact, engage an Onyxia Elite Guard spawn to the extent that the whole group would yield experience. One of the members of your group even happened to deal the killing blow to the creature. When this happened, you did gain experience for being a part of the group and within the vicinity of the kill. The experience you yielded, however, was significantly less than 1,000. I am sorry for the circumstances that caused you to gain a level unintentionally. Again, unfortunately, we will be unable to assist in this matter, as there were no functionality errors that caused you to level illegitimately.
Truth hurts and this is gonna be agonizing!
