Subject: World of Botcraft
A few days ago I reported two bots in Arathi...

Thank you for your swift canned reply, by the way. I don't know why I expected more.

Two days ago, I saw the same two bots in Alterac farming the Crushridge elites...Not only that but there was another bot there from the Horde side. This orc bot had a three letter name composed of random letters and a pet, aptly name "Cat"... Anyway, I needed those mobs for quests. I would have happily shared them with other players who needed them as well, but as it was this behavior seriously irritated the crap out of me.

I didn't report them this time, well, because you kind of proved that it's a waste of my time. I'm pretty sure that if I went back to Alterac right now, the same bots would still be there!

The fact that nothing was done, and that these people are seemingly allowed to continue ripping people off has had a negative impact on how I (and others) view this game, the customer support and Blizzard. You know this is a problem. I'm not the first (or last) to come here whining and moaning about it...

Do Something About It.
Yes, I'm bitter.

It is necessary for players to submit an in-game petition if they suspect another player of being a bot, so that a Game Master may investigate the situation, Mallaidh. Our Game Master staff will investigate the reported character to determine whether or not botting took place. I understand that you have already reported these two botters; but please keep in mind that these types of investigations take time to complete, and we will not inform the reporting players of the results of our investigations; but you can be sure that an investigation is being conducted into the player you report.

If a reported player is found to be botting, that player will receive the appropriate penalty for their actions. As I said in a previous thread, there is a huge difference between a player who is suspected of botting, and a player who actually is botting. Our investigation into the activity of the character will either result in the appropriate action being taken against a bot, or no action taken against a completely innocent player. We appreciate your continued diligence in reporting players that you suspect of botting, and I hope this helps to give you a little insight into the process.

Killngrill, please do not report suspected Bot names to us via this forum. Regardless of how certain anyone feels about identifying Bots, we do not wish to divulge any names publically. All characters suspected for Botting should be reported to us via the in-game petition system and will be forwarded onto our Hacks teams for further investigation.

The associated post was removed for containing character names of suspected Bots. Thanks for your attention. = )

Q u o t e:
I truly believe the most effective approach is to immediately Ban/disable the account.
In that case, Killngrill, we will simply have to agree to disagree. I was informing you of our current procedure when dealing with reported bots; because we have chosen to ensure that players who are not guilty of botting are not incorrectly penalized for it. I would say that we are siding with our customers, by making an effort to ensure that there is sufficient evidence in place before any action is taken. I do, however, understand your concern and your desire for a more proactive approach; and would urge you to post your ideas on our Suggestions Forum.

Q u o t e:
well if see the person doing the exact same route every 30mins 18-20 hours a day.

They either have no life, or are botting.
I personally would vote that they are botting unless they would spend 18+ hours straight doing the exact same thing going to the exact same locations every X amount of time.

I do definitely see your point, Cristiana. This is why I can understand the frustration players have over this issue, and do apologize that our methods create concern and confusion.

Unfortunately, it is not satisfactory to determine a proper course of action by simply allowing the player base to vote on who appears to be Botting. We must have verifiable proof backed by logs to take serious action against a subscriber's account. Given the frequency at which we receive these reports, it can take some time for our Hacks teams to investigate and take action against suspected Botters. On several occasions, characters that appear to be Botting may simply be farming. Although we do not condone this type of behavior either, taking action against an account for said behavior must be handled much more carefully, as the violation may not be as clear-cut.

Q u o t e:
What is considered farming? There are times where I will, without the interaction of third party programs or UI AddOns, follow a set path I have memorized around a zone to gather a set item. A good example is a path I follow around Westfall to kill Dust Devils for Magic Dust for the epic hunter quest.

This is my point exactly, and is not considered a direct violation of our ToU. An example of more malicious farming would be where an account may be accessed by unauthorized foreign IPs, or compromised and no longer in possession of the rightful subscriber.
