Subject: Name deemed illegal
   Hello,

My friend's character's name was deemed illegal, but it's not, cleary. The character's name is: Marijana. It is not in reference to a drug. It's a very common European name. It's also being used on 46 other Wow realms. Try searching for it with Google pictures, you'll see tonnes of RL people that use this name.

Please help him!

Thank you for any help ahead of time.

In order for your friend to dispute the action that was taken against his account, he will need to contact our Account Administration Department at wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com.

When trying to figure out why a name was deemed inappropriate by a Game Master, please keep in mind that it is up to the GM to determine whether or not a name violates our Naming Policy. If the GM felt that the majority of players who saw your friend's name would believe it to be a reference to an illegal drug, that could be sufficient reasoning to warrant a change. I do understand that you and your friend may feel differently; but again, the best move would be to have your friend contact Account Administraction. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this has caused and wish him the best of luck, Forza. :)

   Hi Forza,

Caerrus isn't here at the moment. However I will answer these for you.

Q u o t e:
He just has a few questions.
If he changes his name will all of the "friend lists" he is on be updated?

Yes this is correct.

Q u o t e:
Also, once he logs in with a new name can the name still be changed back to the old one if his appeal is successful?

If an appeal was successful they would be be able to change the name back from whatever it had become to the original name.

Q u o t e:
Kaone,

Why is it so easy to implicate a toon? I've had this character for 7 months and never received a complaint. Now all of a sudden, I'm supposed to change my name based on the whim of a GM? If my character's name is against the TOS surely it would have been censored right at the onset of my adventuring.

Regards,

M.
Unfortunately, the naming filter in place for character creation is unable to catch every single name that violates our policies, so some inappropriate names are able to pass under our radar. Because of this, we rely on players to report any names that they feel may be in violation of our Naming Policy. If a player submits a petition reporting a name, the Game Master will investigate the reported name and confirm whether or not it violates our Naming Policy before taking any action; GMs do not change character names on a whim. I'm sorry that the inappropriate nature of your name was not brought to your attention sooner, Mari, and I can understand that it is going to be quite an inconvenience to change it now; but I appreciate your patience in this matter and wish you the best of luck with your appeal to Account Administration.
