Doing naxx tonight we had our mt's flask get knocked off because of other buffs on him. Is this intended? And when did this start happening?!?!?! And why?!?!?
Cause if this is intended that seriously messed up.
And we are horde, I can imagine how the alliance feels if this is happening to them.[ post edited by Pathagorus ]

All right, folks, here's the scoop. I just checked this out for myself, as the prospect of losing the effects of a flask is not a pleasant one, and discovered the following:
You may have up to 32 buffs before older ones get bumped off for newer ones.
Important to note, however, is that only the first 16 shall be visible at any time.
Thus, in certain situations, it is possible that the icon for your earlier buffs shall seem to disappear, but you have my utmost assurance that the effects shall remain. It was extraordinarily difficult for me to find 32 buffs to give myself, so I doubt it'll be much of an issue for players. I do apologise, however, for any confusion you may have been caused. :)

Q u o t e: This is wrong, the limit is NOT 32. We have had titans knocked off the main tank with nowhere near 32 buffs. I cant tell you exactly how many buffs he had when titans got knocked off because as you say, when there are more than 16 buffs they are not all visible, but it was somewhere in the range of 16-20 buffs, not 32.
I have personally tested the buff limit multiple times, Hai, and each time my earliest buffs only get knocked off once I've reached that magic number: 32.
If you appear to be experiencing otherwise, however, I encourage you to quantify your results and post them here for further investigation. Thanks much. :)

Q u o t e: Here is some testing done by Trindade from over in the R&D forums thread on this issue. The problem is things that are implemented as buffs that we never see, apparently including all the enchants on our gear.
So do your testing again, this time with something like a warrior in 5/8 wrath and enchants up the wazoo.
I'm not in the office, Agren, but I actually saw Trindade's post before I conducted my most recent tests; to that end, I made a warrior in full Wrath with Quel'Serrar, and found that my limit was still 32 buffs. I didn't have any armour enchantments, but from what I've seen I have no reason to believe that they would be counted against one's limit; for the sake of thoroughness, though, I'll try that tomorrow, and let you know of my findings. Please believe me, however, when I say that I have been quite meticulous in my testing, and have found no evidence to suggest that "Apply Aura: Mod" effects are included among one's buffs. I do appreciate your bringing this up, however, as some clarification was needed. :)

Once again, I'm not currently at the office, but I just thought I'd let you folks know that I'll be conducting some additional testing when I come in for work later this afternoon; I'll take your feedback into consideration, and let you know what I discover. On that note, if there's anything else you believe may be of use, please let me know. Unfortunately, I likely shan't be able to share my findings until sometime tomorrow -- due to the beta forum stress test, these forums will be "read-only" for about 24 hours starting at 2 p.m. PDT. But I haven't forsaken this topic, and attempting to verify your claims is still of great interest to me. Thanks for your patience, everyone, as well as your assistance in my investigation. :)

Q u o t e: Regardless of what your internal information might say, this is not true. Take a character and try it out, anything over the visible 16 WILL BE LOST AND KNOCKED OFF. And flasks get knocked off easily.
Test it. It happens. Treat it as a bug report?
I have personally tested it multiple times, Flowerbridge, and it doesn't happen; I've had far more than 16 buffs at once. If you can prove otherwise, I encourage you to do so. :)
As a more general update, my testing reached a veritable crescendo this afternoon. While I have confirmed once again that the buff limit truly is 32, it would appear that there are some effects that count toward this total which are not readily apparent; this may explain the inconsistencies some players have observed. I've taken the liberty of passing this information along to the proper authorities to investigate the matter further, and shall let you folks know if any additional information is forthcoming. Thanks for your help. :)

Q u o t e: bump for more info :)
Don't "bump" threads unnecessarily, Zwerg, as the end result is generally their getting locked for going against the spirit of our forum guidelines. I've put a lot of work into investigating this matter, and would hate to be forced to lock the thread for such a reason, but I shall do so if it becomes necessary. Once more information becomes available to me, I shall share it; of that you have my word. Until such time as I'm able to offer further updates, please remain patient and consider carefully our Forum Code of Conduct. :)

Q u o t e: What is the status of your investigation?
Just to keep you folks apprised of the situation, the data I collected in response to this thread has been analysed by our Quality Assurance team, and we believe to have identified an issue that is causing the inconsistencies some players have observed in the effective buff limit; you may rest assured that this is being actively investigated, and that we hope to devise an appropriate resolution in a future content patch. If any further updates are forthcoming, I'll let you know what I hear. Until then, thanks for your continued patience. :)

Q u o t e: uh o... blizzard made a typo
If you're referring to my use of analyse, I'm afraid that what you've noticed isn't technically a "typo," but rather a "chiefly British" variant of analyze. I adopted British orthography in high school, and have been confounding readers ever since. ;)
