Subject: Naming Violation
   (This is being posted on my priest, because my hunter is frozen for the following reason)

So I tried to login just now, and I get a message saying "Your name has been found to be in violation of naming rules... Please enter a new name"
Jäger is German for hunter. But I am assuming that they are referring to rules 5 and 8 of the naming regulations"
5. That is, contains, or is substantially similar to, a trademark or service mark, whether registered or not;
8. Related to drugs, sex, alcohol, or criminal behavior

Since there is an alcohol named "Master Hunter" and I wanted to name my hunter.... hunter... I am in violation of the rules.

But what about the people on my server with names like Tosviolation (partial sentence) Kindherb (drug reference) Iwontpku (partial sentence) Myskillzown (sentence) Itunes (registered trademark) Rburppwnz (partial sentence AND leetspeak)? Will they be required to change their names, which are CLEAR violations? What about the people who slightly change the spelling of Blizzard trademarks like Thrull? Isn't that using "an alternate spelling to circumvent the name restrictions"?

Most of these names were just pulled up with a quick /who in the middle of Orgrimmar. I have nothing against any of these people, but if I can't keep my name, HUNTER, why should all of these people be allowed to keep theirs?

Q u o t e:
What I am getting at is WHY does my name violate the rules. I haven't been told why, I can only speculate that it has something to do with the liquor. If that is the case, it's a lame reason. It's just 'Hunter' in German.

Your name Jäger will have been changed based on the high ASCII character "ä" contained in it. Names containing such non-standard ASCII characters are not permitted on the United States/Oceanic realms.

Just curious, I know that some people use ASCII characters in their name got reported and then didn't have their name changed. Is there an exception to this rule?

This is going to be a brief reply. *smiles*

No.
