I submitted an in-game ticket, but had to log last night before I could talk to a GM. And I forgot that my email address on the account no longer exists <.< So I'm going to post it here. And I'll change my email address here pretty soon.
Anyway.
I went on a raid to BWL on Tuesday night. We worked on Razorgore, but did not kill him. I didn't enter the instance again with that raid and I was not leader at all during that raid.
Last night, I joined a different raid, and when I got into the instance, I found Razorgore dead, but a living Vael, and nobody else from my raid.
I was under the impression that you had to kill a boss to become saved to an instance? Am I incorrect, or is something else going on?

To answer your question, Lunavi, there are, in fact, two ways a player can become saved to a given Raid ID: The first, as you say, is to participate in killing a boss in the instance. The second is by joining a raid group whose leader has been previously saved to an instance; you shall be bound to whatever Raid ID they possess. I do, however, apologise for any confusion you may have been caused. In any case, friend, I wish you the best in your efforts to conquer Blackwing Lair -- it's quite an adventure, I can assure you. :)

Q u o t e: Okay two ways of which mine was neither. The first raid leader was obviously not saved since we attempted to kill Razorgore and did not succeed. I left the group and logged out at the end of the night, and did not go into BWL again until last night, in my new guild. My guild was at Nefarion at that point.
I didn't even group with ANYONE with the first group after their Razor died, much less go back into BWL.
Neither of these reasons work for me. There is no reason I should be saved unless killing The Controller, or any amount of the mobs in there, or Razor killing himself constitutes being saved.
If you've been saved to a Raid ID, Lunavi, I can assure you that it was due to legitimate in-game mechanics; there are not currently any issues that would cause you would be incorrectly bound to a specific instance of Blackwing Lair. To clarify, however, let me say that if you complete any part of an instance with a group, you can expect to be saved to that copy of the instance, as you have already participated in efforts to vanquish it -- this is likely what you have experienced, but I apologise if I was previously unclear. :)
