Subject: A question about reasons...
Okay before any of you happy little forum trolls even think of responding to this, unless you can provide a link to an acceptable answer then don't.

Around about patch 1.10, the happy little PvP patch I stopped playing having been burned out getting to Lt Gen.

Now on my return I happened to be passing the officers quarters in Orgimar so popped in to see about upgrading my gear.

Imagine my surprise when I looked at the armor vendor and saw all six available for purchase. Ah but they weren't really, they were just there to entice and annoy because on clicking I discovered I did not hold the necessary rank to buy anything.

Yes I had dropped in rank from lvl 11 to lvl 6 in the time I had been away.

Now I know that you happy little forum trolls are going to say 'this is not a CS issue' but hey if i wanted your answers I would have titled it a question to the trolls.

Now for the actual question, what was the reason behind this particular decision to limit the purchase of upgraded equipment to those that still held the rank needed?

I am assuming that it wasn't a case of oh hay lets just make it available to current PvP's just for fun.

Now if any of you happy little forum trolls can actually provide a link to an actual reason then please do so, otherwise go and annoy another poster with your pointless comments.

There sure is a lot pre-emptive hostility in this thread directed toward your fellow community members, Bullmeat. That sure is a way to spawn negative argumentation, thread locks, and heavy moderation quickly.

In any event, it was a development decision to require those who wish to purchase the updated PvP Superior set to acheive the ranks necessary to purchase them. Due to the significant changes made to the sets, it was decided they would need to be obtained again at the choice of the playerbase in order to update to the new set. Because of this, the set names changed and the original Superior sets allowed to stay. Since it is incrementally more difficult to acheive the PvP Epic set, those pieces were updated and automatically replaced.
My lamb and martyr, you look so precious.

Q u o t e:
Put the hostility down to having read these forums and found a majority of fellow community members responses to be at best unhelpful when dealing with none standard questions. (please note I said majority). Now as it turned out I was pleasantly surprised by one of them.

Now Thank you for your response, while it doesn't actually give a reason consistant with other actions regarding upgrading of items (yea I know you will say it does).

So may I trouble you for a means of actually getting a reason that would be consistant with past actions by the same developers.

Now if the reason was simply okay lets make people PvP more then that is fine, disagreeable but fine.

But it would be nice to be treated as an adult who can actually understand reasons rather than treated as a child who can be brushed off with it is too complicated for you type answers.

And truthfully the changes were not that significant.

I apologize for the delay in response, Bullmeat. After some digging around in the archive, I was able to conjure up a post from Eyonix on this subject:

Unfortunately, I will be unable to further discuss or debate the reasons for our development's functionality decisions, as that is not my place. I'm simply providing you with as much information as possible for the reasons these changes were made the way they were.
My lamb and martyr, you look so precious.
