Your sig... What's it mean? I tried looking it up / translating it, but to no avail.

It's French for "These are the windows which call me," from a line of a Rufus Wainwright song called "Rebel Prince." Give it a whirl sometime. :)

Q u o t e: Sorry! Hey Pavonum, while we're here, I have a few questions for you if you have time (About being a Game Wizard).
Sure thing, Sonic. There are some other matters I'm currently looking into, but I'm always happy to answer questions when I can. :)

Let me take care of a few things, Sonic, and I'll answer your questions as best I can. Let it be said that I don't allow myself to become too distracted by frivolity. :P

Q u o t e: Anyways, Pavonum I was wondering if Game Masters have to take weekly quizzes or tests related to in-game issues. Or are there other methods to train and make sure the knowledge is obtained? If you have tests, may I try one? ^^
There aren't any mandatory quizzes or tests for Game Masters to keep on the up-and-up with in-game issues and policies, but communication of such things is usually quite good within our department; all important changes, additions, or reminders are organised and consolidated by certain authorities for general consumption by our representatives. We also have several rather extensive sources of information, including a full knowledge base from which all manner of facts can be gleaned, and Game Masters are always encouraged to ask their peers if they themselves aren't able to find the answer; most of us are avid gamers, and our collective knowledge spans a broad range of in-game aspects.
Q u o t e: Second, I had made a post previously but it went unheeded. I was wondering, would you like and be able to post some pictures of the grand Blizzard office in all its zaniness? Even pictures of the moderator team? I remember a long time ago you had a Diablo stand-up to crack employess back to work. :P
While I wish I could say it were possible to share photographs of our office with players, I'm afraid that -- for now, at least -- the power of imagination shall have to suffice. As for the moderator team, well... let's just say that I don't consider myself to be very photogenic, and Berghe is a veritable ape. Our office, I have to say, is quite nice. Even though it is, at heart, merely an expansive room full of computers, many employees have added touches of personalisation -- Warcraft-themed action figures, among others, reign over our desks from their computer tower thrones, and (primarily) comfortable rolling chairs accompany each station. Although I shun sunlight whenever possible, I'm sure those who enjoy its gaudiness appreciate the large windows flanking one wall. The constant sound of clacking keyboards, hushed conversations, and humming computers is comforting after a while.
Q u o t e: And if not, what is it like over there? Do you have a break room and play games? I hear some of you enjoy Smash Bros too. :) Do you have a cafeteria, or order food? Do you have in office events and gambling, maybe an insider battlegrounds where the losers will have to buy everyone some Starbucks, haha I dont know. I'm just very interested in knowing a little more about what it's like to be a Blizzard Representative (I have a very soft spot for it).
There is, indeed, a breakroom where Game Masters can unwind between blocks of petitions. Although I don't personally visit there often, it's a cozy place, with old (free!) arcade games and a couple consoles; a lot of GMs are fond of grabbing a couple games of Super Smash Bros. or Fight Night and trading stories of real life and WoW alike -- punctuated by friendly trash talk, natch -- over soda. Others opt to read at a table while noshing on home-brought snacks, or maybe get a quick bout of Magic: The Gathering in before returning to work. There's even foosball to be had, and some of the more veteran GMs have honed their skills into an artform -- I had never seen such moves until I started here.
As for food, most of us have "lunch" (the term is used pretty loosely for those on the Night and Overnight shifts) at various restaurants nearby, either eating there or bringing back takeout; some teams even order pizza or Chinese, the scent of which usually drives me mad with hunger. A lot of GMs stick with small groups of friends, or eat together among their teams, but some choose to fly solo. Others bring food from home -- which, unfortunately, isn't an option for me ("Your skill in Cooking has increased to 2.") -- and keep it in the fridge until they can microwave it. And there are, of course, the omnipresent vending and soda machines. We're pretty open so far as victuals are concerned, really.
I'm afraid there aren't any intra-office competitions of the sort you seem to be referring to; although most of us play WoW quite a bit during our off-hours, we leave Battlegrounds and such for home. (I'm not much for PvP, anyway, so I'd always be forced to buy the coffee.) Our office isn't nearly as square and antiseptic as your typical cubicle farm, but the atmosphere -- in spite of a lifesize statue of Thrall (no joke) -- is still very much a (quasi-)serious work environment; we're here to assist customers, not bet on murloc races. :P
Q u o t e: Finally, I'll be frank. I love you guys, and pursuing a job with Blizzard is something I will do when I finish my college education here in the East coast. Do you think taking courses in Communications, Public Speaking, and Business Management a good method to be considered? What other courses would you suggest?
I'm glad to hear of your interest in joining our battle-hardened ranks, friend! While I'm not personally involved in the hiring process, those classes certainly don't sound like a bad place to start; even if you don't end up using those skills in the position you pursue here, they should prove invaluable for your future. (As an example, I was involved in Policy Debate in high school, and, even though I don't do much public speaking these days, I'll always remember the lessons it taught me; I learned to organise my thoughts, empower my language, and see things from more than one perspective.) Really, if you're avid about World of Warcraft, can express yourself well (and clearly) through writing and speech, and enjoy helping others, that goes a long way. In any case, Sonic, you truly have my best wishes in any efforts you make to pursue employment within our department. :)
Q u o t e: These questions may be a little too much, and I understand if you will not be able to answer them.
I did the best I could, and was glad to shed some light on the more human aspect of our department. If there's anything else you're curious about, folks, just ask. :)

Q u o t e: what sort of positions are there? (and what would we need to be qualified for them too)
That question may be best answered by a link to our employment oppportunities, actually: http://blizzard.com/jobopp/

Q u o t e: Pav-
opportunities - not oppportunities:P Just being picky:)
I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about... *brushes typo under carpet* ;)
Q u o t e: What do you think it would be best, apply online or send the resumé by regular mail?
Well, I applied via e-mail; I found that to work just fine, although I imagine that it doesn't much matter which medium you use to send in your résumé. :)
Q u o t e: When you are on break, are you allowed to play? How long are your breaks?
Those, I'm afraid, are questions I shan't be able to answer; my apologies, Silm, but specifics regarding our workflows aren't something I can offer.
Q u o t e: Also, do you still love me?
Of course I do! As only a Moonkin can. :D

Yes, indeed! All Game Masters (including those of us here on the Customer Service Forum) have chosen their own unique GM names. It was extremely hard to decide on a name, but I'm pretty happy with my decision. :) [ post edited by Caerrus ]
