I have told my guild i will be away for a few months while doing the beta testing ....will i still have to pay for my regular account i won't be using during this time or can i cancel and open it back up after i am finished beta testing?

As far as I am aware you will need an active subscription to participate in the Burning Crusade beta, but that is certainly subject to change. More (and accurate) details to come.
