I know a lot of people who aren't interested in Gnomes Deathknights, but of course I know some who are. Overall I think there will be a pretty good variation of them.

No offense, but do the desires of 'some' outweigh the desires of 'a lot'? Does a handful of people wishing to make a joke justify ruining lore? And yes, this is ruining lore; it's making a mockery of a class which has a very deep and satisfying story.
While it may alter the personal story you were expecting, it doesn't ruin the lore at all. People are really excited to play the Deathknight in many different forms/races and we look forward to players getting their hands on it.
