| | First off, this is not a flame. This is not sarcasm. This is not hypothetical. It's just a question.
What do CMs do? I mean, I imagine some guy in a suit driving to work, clocking in at 9:03, turning on his computer, logging on, and then. . . what?
Are they just glorified moderators? It seems like that. They just go around deleting trolls and locking threads. But at the same time we already have moderators for that, so why create these special "CM" moderators?
Are they suppossed to answer questions? It might seem so. They have gone around and pointed out some new feature or two before. But at the same time, if a blue answers your question, it's like some special bonus that they went out of their way to do for you. In fact, asking a blue a question is frowned upon ("blue response please?").
Are they suppossed to unite the community? It sort of seems they might. They do things like the Warcraft Weekly. But the Warcraft Weekly gets updated maybe once a month, and the last "community" thing I've ever seen them do was the little competition for new /emote ideas.
The only answer that seems plausible is that they are the developers eyes on the forums, so that the common people can talk to each-other, and the CMs just go to the devs and say "Hey, btw the mages are pissed again.".
If that's the case, then the blues should clearly state it. Currently it is assumed that their job is to explain to people why windfury shouldn't proc on yellow attacks anymore, but that doesn't appear to be the case, since they refuse to do it.
If I'm wrong, may my imaginary friend Doug smite me down!

| | We've actually answered this question many times before. You see what we do on a nearly daily basis (whether you know it or not) and there is much more you don't see.
In brief, we take part in the community whether it's through friendly banter on the forums, reading threads on the forums, posting new information on the forums, internal reports and meetings with the development team, contests, interactions with the fan sites and much much more. We each have specific tasks we undertake as a matter of course and work with many departments within the company.
I'm closing this thread, however, since these tend to become flame-fests in which people feel the need to malign us and critique our job performance. If you feel you do have valid feedback on our performance both constructive and positive both, please use the email in the topmost sticky. We don't respond to it, but it is all read. wowcmfeedback@blizzard.com .
What we focus on, we empower and enlarge. Good multiplies when focused upon. Negativity multiplies when focused upon. The choice is ours: Which do we want more of?- Julia Cameron
