I'm not really sure where this goes, but since it doesn't fit in anywhere else, I'll put it here.
I'm going to the U.S this summer and I will stay there for a year.
If the new expansion doesn't come out until after I leave, can I still buy it there, and play it on EU servers?
I'm aware that it different continents, but is that only for the "regular" WoW installation, or for the expansions as well?
So my question is; can I buy the expansion there, and install it on my european WoW?
If not, I'll just order it from here, but it would be good to know so I don't have to wait until it arrives?

You will need an EU version of WotLK expansion key to upgrade an EU WoW account. To the best of my knowledge based on personal experience, it is highly unlikely that you will find a retail outlet in the US that carries the EU boxes for sale.
Unfortunately, as has been pointed out, your best bet will be to order it online or pick up a retail box in the EU.
