Ok...so I just sold the Boots of Avoidance for a measly 85g...I look at the message I got in the mail to notice that 4g25s had been taken away from it.
What does Blizzard need to take that much gold away from an auction for? Is it really being put toward something, or is it just a cause for motivating people to stope using the AH?
Personally I think taking that much gold out of a persons profits is a bit much. Hopefully we'll get an actually response to this...
Come on baby, I got Blessing of Protection!

Yes, at the core of it, it is a money sink. However, the primary purpose is to provide a constraint for outrages pricing on auctions. Without a percentage taken out, players can place as many auctions as they see fit, with prices as high as they would like. By having a fee associated with placing an auction, you put a loose limit on how players price auctions. Players then take more consideration into their pricing.

Q u o t e: In fact, the fee in question would actually motivate players to post items at higher prices to actually get the amount they want.
That's right. My bad, I got the the deposit and the cut confused.
So...yeah, money sink and a correlary pricing incentive to the deposit. :D

Q u o t e: Also since Tseric happens to be floating around and this thread is about the AH, is there any talk about adding in a search function which allows you to look up a specifc player and their wares?
Hmmm. I can make a note of it and inquire with the UI folks. I haven't heard any talk about it specifically, but I think I can get that added to the vast list of UI improvements we would like to make. ;)
