We are proud to announce that Blizzard will be part of the Lanwar event taking place in Louisville, KY, from June 15 through June 18. Lanwar is the first stop in the World Series of Video Games, a series of tournaments and events around the world where gamers can get together and compete for glory, honor, and awesome prizes. As part of the Lanwar event, we will be hosting a series of tournaments and contests for Starcraft, Warcraft III and World of Warcraft. For more information, please visit our Lanwar webpage:

We appreciate all the feedback about the Blizzard BYOC area within the LanWar WSVG stop and are excited to meet many of you at the event!
Understandably, theres a lot of questions. As a first stop for more information please check out the official FAQ on the WSVG website: http://www.lanwar.com/FAQ.asp?Process=DISPLAY&FAQID=12#77
Below are also answers to some of your questions from the thread.

"'World' series for americans only.
Typo =P? or is their actually more to this later on?"
There are WSVG events that have been announced in several other countries. For more information regarding the tour, check out their website at:

"Wow, a Blizzard LAN party in Kentucky? I never thought I'd see the day."
Just to clarify, this isn't exclusively a Blizzard event. There'll be lots of other stuff too. Blizzard's involvement will be organizing contests and tournaments in the Blizzard BYOC area of the show. Also, remember there's an official Warcraft III tournament being run by the WSVG folks apart from the contests listed.

"Anyone know of any places that have calendars for e-sports events like these? I live in L.A., so no go on this Kentucky one(at least this time), but Blizzcon really sparked an interest in it for me. Blizzard should just start a whole department or something to run their own/heavily support various official e-sports events around the world. Or at least get a universal, updated calendar up and going on the website(s) :). "
Keep an eye on the www.Battle.net website. We've been working on a calendar feature very similar to what you describe which should be going live in a few weeks.

"pre-fab characters is obviously more fair, but if you are going with prefabs, how will you gear them? (giving the warriors an uber 2hander doesnt help someone who wants to fury spec, giving druids healing gear doesnt help a team that wants to do strat with a feral-hybrid 5th-man, etc). just some things to toss the team that is working on this."
Both contests will use templated, or as you put it "prefab", characters on a dedicated event realm. Unlike BlizzCon, we're not going for a high-end character template set approach here. In fact, we think the race will be most compelling when characters are equipped with regular blue instance armor.
As for Warsong Gulch, the character templates will be extremely well geared..... level 19s

I live in Lousiville too. Just wondering what else to expect. Will we get to see anything from Burning Crusade? Who will be in attendance?
You can find the list of those who have already registered here: http://www.lanwar.com/LWHallSections.asp?Process=DISPLAYSECTIONS&EventID=10
There wont be a Blizzard booth at the event, and we wont be showing off the Burning Crusade. We arent approaching this event as we would a trade show. Blizzard staff will be there to run the competitions and have a great time hanging out with fellow Blizzard gamers.
Besides the Blizzard BYOC area, the guys who run WSVG and Lanwar will be hosting a lot of other cool activities and events. Keep an eye on their website, www.thewsvg.com for announcements to that effect.

When will the parameters like specs, classes, and trinkets/equipment for the Strat run be made available. I want to register for the event but I don't know if we can assemble a team that knows how to play the classes. This is mainly because I do not know what classes will be in the run or if there will be flexibility.
The event accounts will include a level 60 character of each class, so participants will get to pick their favorite. However, the race will be fixed for each class. For example, the only available Horde Warrior character might be a Tauren, and the only available Alliance Priest might be a Human.
Each account will include ample potions, food, drink, reagents, and as much gear variety as can we can pack into the bags. If theres specific trinkets people would like to see, please let us know and we'll see what we can do. Please plan your team and registration around having all classes available. However, specific gear and race-class associations may not be published until shortly before the event. We're including quite a few gear choices, like shield and 2H set-ups for warriors.

For the Strat Race tournament, is it just based off the new Tier .5 45 minute timer? I'm assuming we'll be zoning in through the side and it's just a baron run.
Teams will zone in on the side. The winning team will be the team with the least elapsed time between zoning in and killing the Baron.
Q u o t e:
Can you choose to be horde/alliance for all tournaments? Are you able to compose your own team with whatever classes you want? Can you have more than 1 of the same class (this applies to both the wsg/strat race)?
There wont be class restrictions, and players will be able to pick between Horde and Alliance. Due to the structure of the Warsong competition, we're going to put some restrictions sign-ups for Horde and Alliance to balance the factions numerically. This will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
There are no restrictions to class composition of the Stratholme groups or Warsong raid groups.
Q u o t e:
Will the tournaments be run on Blizzard Computers? If so will be allowed to install our own mods/UIs?
All the competitions in the Blizzard BYOC area will be using players own computers. However, the official WSVG Warcraft III tournament will be in a separate area using the WSVG tournament computers. UI mods in general are allowed, though we may publish a short list of mods specifically disallowed for this competition at the show. Most common mods should be fine though.
Q u o t e:
Will there be a server at the event where everyone can transfer their existing characters to? Similar to PTR...this would really be entertaining. Also, has Blizzard considered making these tournaments count towards the upcoming Beta? (Having the top people get keys/invites)
There will not be a character-copy available, though this is certainly something we hope to be able to do for future live events. No beta keys are being given away during the event.

Can we assume players will have the best blue gear available, or will this be similar to other templated characters (where warriors don't have shields, etc). Will players have any choice in the gear selection?
The gear isn't necessarily the best blue gear available. Since there's already balance based on everyone having the same characters and gear to pick from, were actually shooting for a mid level with gear selection to make the instance race the most fun.
Q u o t e:
Will they be given the opportunity to respec, and buy new skills from a trainer?
We'll be spawning trainers outside the instance, and players will be provided with some gold to retrain their talents.
Q u o t e:
What are the victory conditions? Are there any special rules in play that we would need to know about? Any tactics considered exploitive, etc.
We plan to publish the exact victory conditions and rules a bit closer to the event date. We're still working on fine-tuning them a bit.
