Subject: Mods
Do mods, for example that edit chat features or display, mess up the ability to download new patches or affect gameplay in anyway?

Subject: Re: Mods
Every time the game is patched, many mods invariably become outdated. This should be somewhat obvious, as the game is updated, therefore an attachment which is made for an older version needs to be updated as well.

Every time the game is patched, the forums (along with support departments) are inundated with comments to the effect of "Why did you break my add-ons, Blizz?".

So, in answer to your question, yes, it can affect gameplay come patch time. Until an updated version of the add-ons become available, they usually do not work with a patched version of the game.
