I dont get how it works.. with my lvl 30 mage I still have the starter stuff and whenever i go to learn new ones it says i need like alch lvl 50 or herb lvl 50... wtf how do i get this? when will i be ablee to learn how to get more herbs and make more potions?

Fang, it sounds like you might have confused your character level with your Profession's skill level. They are independent of each other for the most part. The only time your character level will come into play is when you want to gain access to the higher skill levels of your Profession.
