Subject: >>Everything you've wanted to know about CMs
We've just finished writing up a new article at Kingdoms of Azeroth. This one is a bit of a twist from the norm, but its interesting nonetheless!

Q u o t e:
Blizzard has hired many Community Managers for World of Warcraft. These individuals act as a liaison between the community and the developers. Basically, they tell the developers what we think -- they share our feedback with the devs.

With World of Warcraft, there is a bit of a cult of personality following the Community Managers (or CMs for short). They're like celebrities - except more popular.
The CMs all play World of Warcraft. In fact, they're what one would call a hardcore gamer (in that they play a lot), sometimes they even play at work. Likewise, they all love the game. Some play Horde, some play Alliance…some play Shamans and yes, some even play Warlocks from time to time.
The CMs play a regular character - just like the rest of us. The Game Masters don't give them free items or power level them in anyway. They play the game just like us gamers.

This page, while it may seem like we're stalking the CMs, is not intended in that way. Instead, it's meant as a way for the players to get to know the different Community Managers and their um…."unique" personalities.

Go ahead, take a look at the writeup - it contains everything you wanted to know about the Community Managers! Favourite colour, food, and yes, even memorable quotes!

As with this and all articles we've written in the past, feel free to discuss it our forums!

I like the page, but the only thing I would change is the part where it says we are class representatives. We have been trying to explain that we are not the representatives to any one class, we share all information equally. The only reason you will only see one of us at a time per class forum is to make it easier to get information to and from the developers.

Again, none of us belong to a single class. We are all able to relay any information given to us from the developers to any class.

Er, please don't add "class representative" tags to any of us. As Fangtooth stated above, none of us are official class representatives in any capacity. We'd prefer it if you did not encourage this misconception with your page.

Thanks. :)

Q u o t e:
yet, if you were to ask Caydiem about Warlock bugs, she would have no idea what you talking about, she on WoW radio admitted that she plays a Tauren Druid and when people asked her questions all she could say was: " I don't have the specifics on that right now". She used that same answer at least 28 times during the interview.

I do believe your "28" is a bit of an exaggeration.

Many people hold the belief, whenever I'm asked questions in eMail, over the phone, or in person, that I can give more information through this more personal medium than I can on the forums, which simply isn't true. In the interview's case, Athalus asked some questions that I simply didn't have specifics on at the time -- Eyonix would have given the same responses.

Now, the difference between the forums and the above mentioned forms of communication is I cannot simply remain silent on some issues as I do here. That is where the "I don't have specifics" bit comes in.

Q u o t e:
While Caydiem has lots of character with a wide ranges of levels anddoes have a hunter, she doesn't play him or like him, infact she deleted her previous hunter cause she hated him. Please remove hunter as the list of character's caydiem plays.

My Hunter is level 40, a female Orc, and in fact is a character I still play.

Thank you for assuming on all fronts. :)

Q u o t e:
I assumed nothing. You have stated in the hunter forum that you had a hunter, didn't enjoy it and deleted it. Then you stated you would make a new hunter and try to get him to 60 to better understand hunter concerns. While I am happy to hear you still play him it doesn't change my post.

I also stated later in the selfsame forum that I was enjoying my new Hunter a great deal and would continue to play it -- which does, in fact, make your assumptions (that I neither like nor play the class actively) incorrect.

Ok great but do any of you have a 60 priest yet? Seriously I know there are 60 Shamans etc but any 60 priests?

Yes, Fangtooth has a level 60 Priest and has for some time.

   Hmm.

My job seems to be a bit different from your statement, Nadnerb.

I interact with developers daily, and through this interaction gain a better understanding of how games are created and changed. My position as an information "hub" allows me to have my fingers in many departments, and I have been graciously given opportunities to utilize my skills in both art and writing outside of strict community work. I am head of the Fan Site Program and a new program that's up and coming. I regularly attend conventions as a representative of Blizzard, meeting fans and discussing subjects with them face to face. In addition to all this, I work on a variety of projects behind the scenes.

All this amounts to a smidgen more than "forum mod and class representative". We're not class representatives. We're community representatives, plain and simple.

Mephridious, I am a Blizzard employee and was hired for my experience in the industry, my communication skills, and my passion for games. I happened to be a beta tester at the time. ;) We're encouraged to play the game as often as possible in order to increase our understanding and our empathy with the playerbase. I don't really need encouragement, however. ;)
