Subject: PvP is Broken
   Edit:

Changed the subject to ask the question at the core of everyone's thoughts: does Blizzard know what's wrong with PvP or is everything working as intended? I.e. can we hope for fixes or is this the way things are going to be henceforth? Will PvP ever be fun again or are we doomed to an eternity in queue... ;)

Note: Here's a nice constructive subject :)

I've been playing World of Warcraft since closed Beta and have greatly enjoyed my time in game. I've given back to the community (e.g., see the two stickies in the Mage Forum) and overall have had high hopes for WoW.

Battlegrounds were something I've been looking forward ever since they were announced. I thoroughly enjoyed battlegrounds when they came out... and now, with the improvements in 1.6, have continued to enjoy playing the battlegrounds.

However, one thing I do not enjoy and something that is killing my enthusiam for the game is the queue.

I find it debilitating to wait 1-3 hours just to zone into a battleground that is over in 50 minutes (for AV) or to wait 30 minutes to an hour to zone into WSG which ends in 10-20 minutes.

It is not fun to spend more time waiting than playing.

I contrast this with the experience offered by previous Blizzard games, such as Warcraft III. I log onto battle.net, select the maps I'd like to play, select which teammate's I'd like (if I'm playing arranged team) and click 'Play Game.' Everytime I get a game in less than 5 minutes and usually it is under a minute.

I understand there are significant technical challenges to implementing solutions such as cross-server and cross-cluster battlegrounds, but I urge Blizzard to rapidly search for and implement some sort of solution. Waiting in queues is killing my enthusiam for WoW, and I am sure it is sapping my fellow players' as well.

I look forward to seeing solutions and/or word of solutions soon!

As for my fellow players, please bump this post if you agree with my sentiments.

Some more notes:
- PvP has now moved entirely into instances. If I ride around the world, I have nothing to kill save ganking people/levelling farming. That isn't fun and gets old fast. The era of roaming PvP (as was pre-battlegrounds) has effectively ended. Everyone who wants to PvP is waiting in queue, safely inside their capital cities or battleground entrances.

- As I am fortunate enough to be a member of a top-end guild, there's really nothing for me to PvE for either -- there isn't any gear left that I can get solo. If I want to improve my character in PvE, I have to wait for my guild's weekly 40-man raids.

- I can't play an alt if I wish to maintain my main character's PvP rank. If I could play alts while waiting in queue with my main, that would go a long way -- I could feel I was making progress with a new character while waiting for my main to be able to zone into a BG and make progress on the PvP side of things.

I'm certain other players are also experiencing these issues and I once again urge Blizzard to take decisive action, and soon.

Here is a quote from another thread, by Cheburashaka of Archimonde, which eloquently sums up a set of related issues:

Q u o t e:

Problem #1:

We afked bunch of times on nurfed last week. Other people do the same thing. Why? Simple because if we didnt we would have all deranked this week. Playing nurfed for an hour per game or more, even if we would of won would give us like 2k cp if not than 500 at most, while during that one hour we can roll 2-3 pugs and get 2-3X as much while watching a TV show. This is one of major flaws in the system, playing much weaker team gives much more CP's than playing a strong one.

Problem #2:

After patch AV is much easyer to win and gives out more CP's. Protous got a group that wins AV 6-7 times a day making 60-70k CP's daily. Can anyone outside his group ever compete for ranks again? No, its not possible. Even if you play 24/7 and never sleep you just cant farm this much CP's in a week. Is this Protous's fault? Definatly not, he just organized a group and having some fun, but the design is flawed, if difficulty of AV was toned down the CP's bonuses should have been towned down as well, not up. Now people can get 10k CP's per hour or even 10k per 30 min if most horde desides to afk out, which they now usually do. The only way anyone will ever get ranked up in this current state is if they got 39 well equiped friends with tons of time and 10+ of them better be mages.

To sum it up 90% of CP's in a weekly pool are bonus CP's from farming much weaker teams and 10% of the CP's are from actual PvP. Anyone doesnt find anything wrong with that? This is not the players fault and I dont blame anyone, this is Blizzards fault for designing such a crapy PvP system.

Players should get most of their CP's from killing other player, good players. It should be very rewarding to face nurfed and win, or at least try to. However its not and in current state if you facing a good opponent, and you want to rank up this week, than your only option is to type /afk and move on.

Here is another set of suggestions, from my guildmate Dirken:

1) Remove faction rewards
2) Enable arranged games
3) Guild rankings with higher-ranked guilds making the Battleground worth more CP at the end, and lowbie guilds worth less/nothing
4) Wait times that do not exceed Warcraft III's arranged team games
5) Fixes to the dozens of exploitable bugs in either BG

--

More suggestions
1) Add a death penalty. It's a little silly that dying and rezzing gives you full health and mana... many times I die just so I don't have to drink... it is faster to die than it is to drink!
2) Add an /afk penalty
3) Give incentives for staying and fighting
4) Don't give PvP rewards for solving PvE puzzles

Not gonna let this one die, too much time typing it up :P

We recognize the concerns presented in this thread and plan to make improvements (but recognize that some of these aren't things we can resolve quickly).
