Subject: Alterac Valley: A Sincere Plea to Blizzard
I play on Darkspear, a low population pvp server, so it wasn't surprising to me that Alterac Valley instances never get started. After all, with such a low population, it's hard to get enough people level 51-60 online on both sides and willing to join the queue for a game. But, I got curious, so I logged onto my other character, a paladin on Blackhand, a high population pve server. I found that here games rarely happen as well due to not enough people joining. It surprised me that even on a high population server, games rarely happened, as I found out from talking to people in Ironforge.

I believe that the main problem lies in the fact that no one knows how many people are in the queue on both sides, so they do not know if the game could possibly happen soon. If they don't know this, they won't bother to join. Now I thank Blizzard for attempting to help with the new NPCs in IF and Orgrimmar coming next patch, but I don't believe that this solution addresses the main issues. Sure, it makes it easier to join, but people still have no REASON to join. I can think of two solutions:

1) Allow each side to see how many people are in the queue on their faction's AND the opposing faction's side. If one can see that there are 20 opponents ready, but only 10 allies, they will surely join and try and get 9 more people. If they get more people, they can be sure that a game will start. At the moment, everyone says the game isn't starting because there is not enough of the opposing faction--when they cannot know this for sure. They use this as an excuse to not even bother, because they do not know a game will start.

2) The other idea I had is to have one of the AV instance with a lower player limit. Say, 10 required to start per side, with a max of 20 per side. This will allow games to get off the ground much quicker, and spur interest. If these fill up too quickly, then what's the problem? That's what we want, right? More people playing in AV! If it's too hard to get a group, then add more copies of the instance.

If anyone else has sincere, constructive ideas, please post. But can we try to keep it civilized. Thank you Blizzard for taking the time to read this, and I hope these ideas help spur interest in the Battlegrounds. You've worked too hard on this feature of the game to let it go unused.

While we have no plans to lower the player limit on Alterac Valley (since the Battleground is delicately balanced to work with the limit it has now), we do plan to make some changes to the queue system that should hopefully alleviate some of the mystery behind how many people are waiting with you. :)
