Subject: Warcraft Weekly - Episode Twenty Three
   In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's mind there are few.

What - Why - When

Please don't submit inappropriate tickets! Gnorog explains(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=759657) how the Game Master Ticket Queue is being bogged down by easy questions from the FAQ(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/board.aspx?fn=wow-gmmessages-en) and the list of known Patch 1.9 issues(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=750617) sticky. All technical problems are to be kept to the Technical Support forum(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/board.aspx?fn=wow-tech-support-en). A list of Game Master issues can be found here(http://www.wow-europe.com/en/support/gamemasters.html), detailing the issues GMs can help with. Also, please don't write funny/fake tickets, as they only lengthen the queue for others with genuine concerns.

Having problems adding game time to your account? It's a known bug, as confirmed by Thundgot(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=763291), which will be fixed as soon as possible.

Migration Update

We have a big update for you today! Blizzard have decided to continue the migration program, and we have the schedule for January, haxored.

Remember that Blizzard can close down or redirect any migration at any time based on the population of the involved realms, so move fast! Also, the migration may be closed on wednesdays due to the extra load on the servers after maintenance. The migrations will be open only between 03:00 and 15:00 CEST (GMT/UTC +2) each day.

Phase 10 will be from January 9th to January 13th:
Argent Dawn <RP> --> Steamwheedle Cartel !NEW! <RP>
Earthen Ring <RP> --> Steamwheedle Cartel !NEW! <RP>
Zenedar <PvP> --> Drak'thul <PvP>
Shadow Moon <PvP> --> Drak'thul <PvP>

These migrations are not definite yet. Phase 11 will run from January 20th to January 21st, and is a rerun of the December 5th-9th 2005 that had some bugs:
Bloodscalp <PvP> --> Trollbane <PvP>
Burning Blade <PvP> --> Trollbane <PvP>
Daggerspine <PvP> --> Mazrigos <PvP>
Stormreaver <PvP> --> Mazrigos <PvP>

These migrations are not definite yet. Phase 11 will run from January 23rd to January 24th, and is a rerun of the December 12th-16th 2005 that had some bugs:
Deathwing <PvP> --> Talnivarr <PvP>
Stormscale <PvP> --> Talnivarr <PvP>
Bladefist <PvP> --> Emeriss <PvP>
Kor'gall <PvP> --> Emeriss <PvP>

Another Patch Bites the Dust!

Last wednesday Patch 1.9.0 was implemented. Whoohoo!

Here are some of the main points to keep you away from the whole patch notes(http://www.wow-europe.com/en/patchnotes/patch-190.html) for a while:
  • Two new raid dungeons, 20-man and 40-man
  • Linked Auction Houses in every major city. LFG and Trade channels will also be linked in capitals.
  • Multiple Battlegrounds Queues! Join all three so you don't have to guess which'll start first.
  • Three Soul Shard Bags are available for Warlocks, which act as ammo pouches for their shards.
  • The Raid Calendar System has been changed to:
    Molten Core: Resets every 7 Days during weekly maintenance.
    Blackwing Lair: Resets every 7 Days during weekly maintenance.
    Onyxia: Resets every 5 Days.
    Zul'Gurub: Resets every 3 Days.
    Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (40-man): Resets every 7 Days during weekly maintenance.
    Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (20-man): Resets every 3 Days.
    All resets will occur at off-peak times. Raid Calender: http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/raidcalendar/index.html
  • Paladin talent revamp. Free respec! Talent Calculator: http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/1p9/paladin/talents.html
  • New Armor Models for high-level class sets
  • The Timbermaw Furbolgs are now a faction. Faction page: http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/factions/timbermaw/index.html
  • And much.. much.. more!

    The current list of Patch 1.9 Issues is now up(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=750617) along with a discussion/suggestion thread(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=757481) for feedback on new issues.

    Having problems with the Blizzard Downloader? Nefari has posted a thread(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=750082) with a link to a Patch Mirror page with downloads for most patches so far, including the 1.9.0 patch. Make sure you choose the en_gb patches!

    New Realms

    Two new realms have been ninja-added(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=759466) to stem the flow of new players just joining the game, and old players looking for a new challenge.

    Quel'Thalas <Normal>
    Ahn'Qiraj <PvP>

    Server Changes

    Some of the game servers have been under scrutiny recently, and for good cause. Luckily, Blizzard are making some changes.

    Q u o t e:
    We are working on various measures to improve our overall performance and particularly on those European realms that have suffered ongoing problems recently and we'd like to take this opportunity to share our plans with you.

    The load on our data centers that host the longest established realms with the highest number of players overall has been causing some problems for many of the realms in those data centers. Hardware to upgrade and improve the performance of these data centers is on order and will be installed next month. Meanwhile we are implementing a number of changes to improve the performance in the short term

    The realms that will be receiving the hardware upgrade(EU_GB) are:
    Earthen Ring
    Ravencrest
    Runetotem
    Shadow Moon
    Shadowsong
    Shattered Hand
    Silvermoon
    Skullcrusher
    Spinebreaker
    Stormrage
    Stormreaver
    Stormscale
    Terenas
    Thunderhorn
    Turalyon

    Good for them! But what about the other realms, you say? Well, the short term changes mentioned above are being implemented as we speak.

    Firstly, all realms on affected data centres have been tagged 'Full'.

    Secondly(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=760144), character creation has been blocked on the following realms:
    Agamaggan
    Aggramar
    Al'Akir
    Arathor
    Argent Dawn
    Aszune
    Azjol-Nerub
    Bladefist
    Bloodhoof
    Bloodscalp
    Burning Blade
    Burning Legion
    Crushridge
    Daggerspine
    Deathwing
    Doomhammer
    Draenor
    Dragonblight
    Dragonmaw
    Dunemaul
    Emerald Dream
    Sunstrider
    Twilight's Hammer
    Warsong
    Zenedar

    There was a thirdly(http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=762224), but it was removed because by lowering the realm cap, queues (Obviously) increased.

    This is a good step in the direction of better servers. Props to Blizz, but there is still more work needed to be done.
