In our continued efforts to provide the best gaming experience and improve the performance on the realms listed below we will lower the number of players that are able to log in on the realms at the same time.
We realize this will cause longer queues to enter these realms, and this is a temporary solution to go with the blocked character creation already in effect until further improvements are completed. We will closely monitor the effect of these restrictions and update you as the work moves forward.
The decrease will be in effect from Sunday morning (January 8th).
The following realms are affected:
English realms
Earthen Ring
Ravencrest
Runetotem
Shadow Moon
Shadowsong
Shattered Hand

Q u o t e: As a matter of interest can you confirm by how much you have lowered the realm caps by?
While I can't give an exact number or percentage I can assure you we've made sure to use the lowest decrease we feel will have an impact on the performance. We're very aware of the negative effects of lowering the cap, and prefer to be cautious when making such adjustments.

Q u o t e: How does the block to character creation work exactly? Does that affect only new accounts trying to create chars on Skullcrusher? Or does it hinder me (having a 60 and some alts there) too to start another char there?
I haven't tested it personally, but it should allow you to create characters if you already have characters on the given realm.
Q u o t e: I dont know how you Blizzard staff define 'solution', but despite this temporary 'solution', the lagspikes on my server along with the mail delay and sumsuch are the same as ever?
If I have to wait in queue so long that I cant play my favourite time on my server which I have been on since Feb. 2005 I do *at least* expect that there is some kind of positive performance effect in return.
If there's absoultely no improvement from the lowered cap it will of course be set back to the normal value. This is the reason for making the change in the first place, and we're looking at both player feedback and server data to see the results.
Q u o t e: WEll i work for the Biggest Diy Company in the UK and trust me when things go wrong we lie to the customer and thats what blizzard are doing also , Trust me i know,
No, you don't. "I lie when in trouble, so everybody else does" is a very flawed logic. Please refrain from such untrue accusations.
Q u o t e: Fix it or die.
Completely intolerable language on these forums. No matter how upset you may be this is far across the line.
Please keep this civil folks. We know this is no ideal situation, but while negative feedback is welcome, verbal abuse and threats is not.

Q u o t e: As it seems that a blue is reading here, you should add Argent Dawn to your list of troubled realms.
Is it on the main list (http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general-en&t=759468), but not in the most troubled data center.
Q u o t e: Isnt this sort of thing what having test realms is for?
To test this we would need to set up 48 test realms and fill them with players. That's hardly realistic.

Q u o t e: Why wasn't Daggerspine in the list posted? That 800+ man queue just came about miraculously and had nothing to do with realm population cap I presume.
Tonight saw a record high peak concurrency in Europe. That surely helped to increase the queues.

Q u o t e: Bliz - if you stopped giving away free passes to every man and his mate - at the expense of your existing players then surely that would help - alternatively set-up serperate infrastructure for promotional playing and smooth the peaks of coincurrency.
The impact of guest passes and trial accounts are minimal.
Q u o t e: So, you are telling us that since you can't afford 48 test realms
Sorry for wording myself a bit badly. Getting the realms is not the problem. Having the amount of players join them to have the necessary load is the problem. Testing with math and load emolators have limited use compared to a real live environment.

I'll un-sticky this one, as the realm caps are back to regular values. I'll re-sticky it or make a new thread if we change the caps again.
