Now I have heard lots about ppl saying get new hardware etc etc, yours must suck.
Well I dont know, but with all the downtime there is, and all the crap we have to put up with all the time because of things going wrong, I would urge you and the community to look at the following exert taken from eve-online.
Now CCP know how to keep their users happy, they have a mear 60 odd thousand subscribers, and STILL they fork out for the top hardware for the job.
They currently broke the record for the most ppl n at the same time on a single shard, of about 22,000 people.
Anyway, the exert to read is this:
Q u o t e: CCP's online multiplayer game is set apart from other such games because all players are on one server cluster, while other online role-playing games force different groups of users into different gaming clusters. To manage the demand by thousands of simultaneous gamers, CCP installed a 64-Gigabyte RamSan-400 solid state disk to accelerate their Microsoft Windows SQL Server database. The Texas Memory Systems' solid state disk resulted in a 40x improvement in performance by removing I/O bottlenecks allowing CCP to not only support much higher number of users but also improve the current user experience.
"The effect of the RamSan was immediate on both system performance and customer satisfaction," said Hilmar V. Pétursson, CEO of CCP. "After installing the RamSan, our player forums quickly lit up with enthusiastic and positive comments. Now we can focus our engineering resources on expanding our game universe and the customer experience without the limitations imposed by hard disk performance. It's going to be a nice change for our developers."
Now Blizz, surely with your millions in subscription fees, you could implement this, aye?!
Next point. CCP have daily updates on what they are doing, they have work plans for all to see, regular conferences and IRC meetins with the players to see what they want, and issues they have. Here is an example of a recent release by CCP.
Q u o t e: server hot, hotfixes applied, hotness continues. cool hardware to the rescue
reported by Oveur | 2006.01.01 21:26:29
Since the release of Red Moon Rising, we have deployed 11 hotfixes in downtimes addressing 28 various performance and crash issues on Tranquility. In addition to that, a small client patch is being assembled for deployment in the first week of January. Until then we will continue to deploy server hotfixes during downtime since we have still not achieved our goal of better overall performance than our Cold War release had.
The bigger news is that our testing of 64-bit servers and our development of our 64-bit server software infrastructure are now in it's final stages. The performance increases found in this testing has lead to the decision to upgrade the whole cluster to brand new AMD Opteron 64-bit IBM Blade servers. Yes, that's a brand new Tranquility cluster. EVE deserves nothing less. We're sure you all agree :)
Happy Holidays!
You see, CCP seem to actually CARE about their users more than their wallets and their fancy cars. In fact so may you guys, but you sure as hello don't portray that across to your subscribers. You need some real changes in there tbh, cos atm the words pissup brewery organise couldn't come to mind.
I hope you take this post the way it was meant, because you really need to change the way you treat your PAYING customers. You may think we are all whining, but when you are PAYING for a product and it is not being delivered, then the company charged with delivering said product should be responsible.
Also, I recommend you go and look at eve-onlines web page, for more tips on how they treat their customers.
If you think I am joking with daily updates, go look. The address is www.eve-online.com
Now if you don't start improving soon, I'm sure you won't be the only ones who start looking at it...
In angry mode now
