| | First off, I'm sorry for posting this here, but seeing as your official technical support forums are useless (see: "Login Server Down"), I'm putting it up here.
WoW was running great on my computer up until today. Then I download the new patch. Oh, things are working swell for a while... I even made it into WSG. And then I crashed in the middle of the field, with an error message stating "insufficient system resources to open sound.mpq". I think to myself, bull!**! I don't have the resources for it; I used to play on 512meg of ram and I have 2gig now, and my processor can certainly handle it.
So I restart WoW, try again. After numerous disconnects while trying to log in, I manage to get back in, thankfully not kicked from the battleground and given that stupid deserter debuff. I manage to run around for a while... then notice my cursor isn't showing up. At all. I manage to switch to a software cursor, works okay but drops my performance quite a bit. On a hunch, I switch back to hardware cursor. Runs smoother for all of 30 seconds or so, and then I notice that whenever I hold right click to turn, rotating my character more than 10-15 degrees makes the screen go dark and lag out... and I lose my cursor again.
And then I crash. And then I lose my primary monitor (that WoW runs on), and my entire windows environment goes to my secondary. So I reboot. Same thing happens. I reboot again. sound.mpq error again.
At this point, I'm certain that the patch screwed *something* up. I decide to run the blizzard repair tool in case some of the data files were corrupted during the horrible, slow, patch download. Turns out the repair tool wasn't updated in the patch.
So I go to the blizzard tech support website. The repair tool on the site hasn't been updated since April.
So now I'm stuck with an installation of WoW that doesn't work, a repair tool that refuses to repair, and now I'm copy-pasting this thread from the technical support forums that don't work and putting them on the beta test forums that, somehow, do work. Please forgive me if I need to stab someone's face off.
