Subject: Girl Characters Played by Guys...

How many female characters are played by guys? I'm a guy and so far all my characters are male, but I want to at some point roll a female alt. Is that common or sorta weird? O.o

We go where eagles dare.

I've personally always played as a female character. I've rarely had an issue with harrassment during my gaming 'career'.

Q u o t e:
Yes, but what about the topic? How do you feel about guys/girls playing characters of the opposite gender? (I'm asking you not as a "company mouthpiece" but in your own opinion)

I have no problem with it at all and have known many men that enjoy playing female characters and can RP it perfectly. I can generally tell when a female character is not being played by a female fairly easily though there are some guys that are very good at it.

As for females playing male characters, whatever their reasons it's just fine. Some do it because they feel it will keep them from being harassed and some do it because they just prefer playing a male character or like the way they look.

It's a personal playstyle choice. The only time it bothers me is if a male is making a female character specifically to do the fake flirt thing for goodies. The reason I don't like it is because it perpetuates a stereotype that women just use their characters and charms to get free stuff. Or that we're all really men behind the keyboards taking advantage of other men. I have either earned what I have or have friends that I trade items back and forth with. Handouts are a rarity.

There are many more females playing online than people may realize and many like myself that have been gaming for a very long while. There used to be far fewer choices to even play a female character. Times are changing to match up with the changing demographics.

I have recently been playing a female character and I have not had any issues with harassment, everyone has been very nice.

Somewhat unrelated, I do find myself more inclined to collect clothing and play 'dolly' to create matching or appealing outfits. With all of my male characters it has always been what has provided the best stats, even if I looked like a clown. I have never gotten so much use out of my Ctrl key since rolling a female character.

Don't judge me. I am secure enough to admit my problems.
